Installing effects from X2

Hi guys,

I currently have a PC which has been upgraded from 8.5 to x1 to x2. I am rebuilding my machine next week with bigger SSDs so will be doing a fresh install and looking to upgrade to Professional.

Is it easy enough (or possible) to install components of the boutique suite, such as tube leveller, from my old install files without installing the whole version of X2 again? Also are there any other major things I will be missing out on without my old version installed? (aside form DimPro which I have the installer for)

I'm obviously looking to keep this machine quite clean on install so only really want necessary bits installed.

Thanks

Yes,  once you've installed Professional you can run the individual installers for your previous products selecting Custom install.  You can then choose what you want to install from them.

Since the machine has no version of SONAR on it, I would perform the advanced install of X2 prior to the new version of SONAR. The advanced install option provides a checklist of components to install except for the ProChannel modules and V-Vocal. To install the ProChannel modules and V-Vocal, the SONAR program files (the first checkbox in the list) must be installed. Also DimPro has a separate installer.

ok thanks, maybe i'll just go the x2 advanced route and then 'upgrade' to professional then. At least I wont need to install 8.5 or x1 again.

Also, as a aside to this, i'm taking my C drive from a 64gb SSD to 500gb SSD. I also have 2 other non-SSDs which have contained the sample libraries and project files currently. I'm just wondering if it would be better to just stick everything on the 500GB SSD and not bother with the other 2 drives. Does this seem like a sensible approach?

Unless you want the Lexicon Pantheon or Cakewalk Tuner last bundled with 8.5 or Cakewalk Analyst or Beatscape last bundled with X1.

WRT, the drive choice, the easiest would be to install everything on the SSD and use another internal drive for projects. When/if the disk starts to fill up move the samples to another drive and create a directory junction in the original location. For example, to relocate the DimPro multisample folder from "C:\Program Files\Cakewalk\Dimension Pro\Multisamples" to "D:\Cakewalk\DimPro\Multisamples"
1) Using Windows Explorer move "C:\Program Files\Cakewalk\Dimension Pro\Multisamples" to "D:\Cakewalk\DimPro\Multisamples"
2) Run the cmd.exe as administrator and type
mklink /j "C:\Program Files\Cakewalk\Dimension Pro\Multisamples" "D:\Cakewalk\DimPro\Multisamples"

scook, thanks for the info. Think ill just stick everything on the SSD and just add another when i'm full, I can just bump the samples as you suggest. Guess i'll retire the spinning HDs for backup purposes!

I may grab the pantheon from my 8.5 disks.
