mp3 encoder?

I have cakewalk Sonar X2.  I was emailed "MyMP3Activation.exe" from cakewalk.  I ran the program and restarted my computer.  I don't know how to save a project as an MP3 file.  I assumed it was as simple as going to "Save As" and choosing MP3 as an option.  This didn't work.  Am I overlooking something?

Thanks.

mp3 files are created by File > Export > Audio and setting "Files of type" drop down to mp3 in the Export Audio dialog.

you should be able to use file/export/audio and then select mp3 as a format.

    Semi-Related question...

I couldn't hold out any longer, and just purchased the upgrade from X3e Studio to Professional.  I figured as long as I was doing that, I would go ahead and grab the Cakewalk MP3 encoder while I was at it, but couldn't find it anywhere in the store.  Is it now something that is bundled in Sonar 2015, or did I just miss it in the store?  I found it in the Steam store, but it says you have to have the Steam version of Sonar, so I figured I'd ask around first.

Thanks in advance.  Can't wait to dive into Professional.

i can't leave a link because it wants to do it in my currency.

Got to Cakewalk store and select Top Downloads and look for the MP3 tool there.

There are a lot of free converters out there. I use Gold Wave or Wavosaur ( free) and the  batch conversion and do the whole album at once.
Gold Wave is free to try or  $19 for a year and only $60 for a lifetime membership.
I bought the lifetime because it's real good solid, stable software that always works.
To bad Sonar doesn't offer that option eh?

For $60 it's pretty useful app. Not as good as Wave Lab or Sound Forge but for a lot of basic editing it's actually pretty darn close. And you can add it to your tool menu in Sonar.

Yeah, I actually have Soundforge if I'm trying to make a MP3 version and tweak it for a wider audience, but I like having a quick tool integrated right into Sonar's work flow if I need to drop off a quick copy of a draft to listen on the train or send around to friends for feedback.  Hard to beat 9.99 :)

Thanks for the info.  I though I had looked under Top Downloads and not seen it, but I'll look again.  Thanks.

I hate to sound cheap, I know it's only $10, but with all of the cool stuff included with even the lowest version of Sonar why would a simple MP3 encoder (as long as MP3's have been around) be so difficult to just include in the software?

Has to do with licensing. Lame is free but not commercially so instead of charging everyone they give you a choice to set the free one up yourself or pay $10 and Cakewalk will do it for you once for all time. Other software you pay the lice cover and over.
