Annoying bugs since Sonar X2

I don't usually post about bugs since I tend to put up with them or find workarounds, but now that I'm paying monthly for Sonar I figured I might as well mention a few.

  • This bug has been around since Sonar X2: if I disable snap and then change the snap setting, say from 1/4 to 1/16, it will revert to the old setting when I turn snap back on. Sonar X1 used to keep the new setting, but every version of Sonar since X2 reverts to the old setting.
  • This bug was introduced in X3: after editing MIDI notes with the built-in arpeggiator enabled, a 10-second program freeze will occur before playback begins. It's almost like Sonar has crashed, but then it starts working again. It's hard for me to reproduce this on demand; it seems to happen more often on heavier projects, although I did get it to behave this way once when I was testing a project with only 1 or 2 soft synths running.
  • New bug in Sonar Platinum: when I bring up the Piano Roll for a MIDI track, the left pane showing the piano keys will appear as it should, but then when I maximize the Piano Roll, the keys pane will disappear and I have to drag it out again.
That's all I can think of for now...

I reported this some time back, and the report was closed - working as designed. Resolution cannot be changed while snap is disabled.

Possible workaround (assuming you mean when maximizing the multi-dock): Undock and unfloat the PRV, set the keyboard pane where you want it and re-dock.

    Shayne,

There is now a forum for specific problems to be reported. You might want to consider posting any issues there.

I find this somewhat annoying also. I don't think he's trying to change it while disabled. He simply wants it to remain where he set it before disabling it, as I do.

I find it will also revert while enabled after editing notes, so if it is "intended behavior", it is also "unappreciated behavior".

He specifically wrote: "if I disable snap and then change the snap setting..."

The only thing I know of that would prevent a change made before disabling snap from persisting would be that you have Smart Grid enabled so resolution follows horizontal zoom. Or changing screensets.

You're right, I read it wrong.

Normal snap works fine. It's Smart Grid snap that keeps reverting when you think it shouldn't.

When selecting smart grid, it reverts to 1/1. If I change it to 1/32 and create a note, it switches to 1/2 forcing me to reset it to 1/32. After which it will stay. All this while it is enabled.

Now when I disable it and create a few notes and then enable it again it reverts to 1/2 forcing me to reset it to 1/32 again. This may be what he's referring to.

Smart Grid is going to switch to whatever it thinks is the appropriate snap interval for the current zoom level. I don't usually have it enabled, but when I've used it in the past, it always seem reasonably consistent if not ideal for my personal preference. If you have it set at 1/32, and have more than a couple measures showing, Smart Grid is going to go to a higher snap level when you enable it.
