Roland/Cakewalk A800Pro?

Hey All,

Had a quick question about midi keyboard controllers, and wanted to see what other folks out there are using.

I currently use an Axiom 49 Pro (which I picked up around the time I first got X3 Studio).  Seems to work well, and has a great feel for performance, but doesn't feel like it integrates as well with Sonar (as alot of it's automapping, etc, is set up for a Pro Tools environment).  I was wondering if any other folks out there were using an Axiom Pro and what their experiences are.

Also wondering if anyone out there is using an A500 Pro or A800 Pro from Roland/Cakewalk, and how they like the unit (and if the unit still works well in Sonar Professional/Producer which I just upgraded to).  I'm kind of new to MIDI so the ease of use/plug-n-play piece is huge to me, being able to have the transport and maybe some of the knobs and sliders (bank up and down) ready to go without too much fiddling would let me spend more time focusing on making music.

Thanks.

My A800 continues to work well with SONAR Platinum.  Like you, I am not a power midi user and I basically use the unit to control and record the SONAR soft synths.  It works like a champ.  I'm not doing too much else with it with the exception of a few ACT features.  No fuss.....just gets the job done with the soft synths that I use and I thought that it was a good value for the money.

A lot of people commented on the aftertouch, its very stiff to the point where some found it unusable. Its OK for me because at least you can't trigger it accidentally.

The Roland style pitch bend mod lever is a love or hate thing. I find it very convinent having the singel control to manipulate but the modilation will always return to zero when you let it go. The easy answer is to assigne a slider to modulation if you want to maintain a modulation level with out having to hold the lever.

I still use my 800 pro with no problems in X3.  I just upgraded to Platinum, but expect to see the same integration with ACT and VS 100 and Octa-Capture.

Win 10 Pro x64, 32Gb DDR3 ram, Sonar Platinum, Cubase 9.5, Mackie MCU Pro, Cakewalk VS 100, Roland Octa-Capture,  A 800 Pro, Carver M-1.5t amp & C4000 pre amp, various mics, drums and brass instruments.

And away we go!

Yes itworks in win 10  in midi.  Go to Roland drivers and you can download the driver for it in win 10.  or start winwod 10 and after that  mconntect your keyboard and it will get automatic the connection in win 10 for the driver. That works perfekt!!.  But there have to be more  than only the keys working. i am waiting now for the extra's in A800 and sonar , as sample you can start a musicv file from your keyboard and that's not realised yet. Stiull waiting and what takes it a long time to get the UA 101 working, till today no results.
