Something different: The History of Future Folk
Funny, nonsensical movie about banjo-picking aliens. If you liked Earth Girls are Easy and Brother From Another Planet, you may like this. Here's the trailer. The music is decent and it isn't faked, because the film's two male leads are an actual folk duo called Future Folk. Also featured in a supporting role is Dee Snider, semi-talented retired rock star made famous in the 80's by Tipper Gore.

Hi, Hmmmmm ... I think I need some Sunshine, or Purple Haze for this one! I'm a lot more into progressive and experimental music, but aliens playing ... folk and country? Anyone got any bombers handy? (Cheech)
Music is not about notes and chords! My poem is not about the computer or monitor or letters! It's about how I was able to translate it from my insides!

The trailers looks like one of those movies that borders on being awful, but that itself could make it a great entertaining movie (at least for some of us). IMDB message board indicates its availability on Netflix. Also mentions it has grossed $15,943 as of ,July 2013. No record after that date. And IMDB reviewers seem to like it at a 7.5 out of 10 rating. Pretty good. I will give it a go if it is on Netflix streaming.

Hondo! Indeed. Yes, it's on Netflix, which is where I watched it this morning. And yes, it's a low-budget indie film, but it doesn't have a cheesy (e.g. grainy picture, muffled sound) look to it, and the actors are all competent.

On the flip side, the Future of Historical Folk is doing quite well.... somewhere.
