Legacy Products-I know!!

To all Cake lovers, users and possibly haters.  I know that this topic has been discussed ad infinitum but there has to be a way.  This of course is the topic of legacy products and an one installer for this stuff.  After getting a new computer yesterday, I've had to install 8.5 for things like Dreamstation, Lexicon and VC64, then I've had to download X2 for R-Mix-which is a fantastic if but quirky product-a bit like me.  It's beyond a joke anymore.  Here I have a vast array of Cakes software including P5-1 and 2 (it would be nice if velocity drum machine would work in X3 too), Pyro Audio Creator, S2, S6, S8, X1, X2, and X3...so I believe this gives me some right to gripe and possibly say WE NEED A SOLUTION!!

I know Cake don't own the licenses for this stuff, but we do.  Is there anyway for the interested parties to sit down and fix this...or is there a way Cake can create an install file for the legacy stuff.

Cheers

It would be cool if CW could create a single installer that asks for all "additional" content only for all past SONAR releases (not the actual SONAR) and then you simply provide the DVD, CD or disc locations as required.

With a "burn all installers to DVD" option. Just the chosen installers that are unique to your needs.

This. I've got several SONAR's installed just to get my grubby hands on some included thing that's no longer included. That's the reason why I'm not the biggest fan of all the add-ons. It would be fantastic to have auto detection of your previous purchases and the option to tick off all the included bits to keep it tidy and organized without having projects crap out because you forgot to install frickin' Beatscape or whatevz.

The problem with this thread is that everyone is thinking logically and rationally

I've been involved in some licensing deals at Gibson and while some are painless, some are a nightmare. Regarding the specific plug-ins, we've been over the VC-64 multiple times. I LOVE that plug-in. I have nothing that can do what it does (although if the Blue Tubes FX could run in parallel...), and I fear the day when Windows or SONAR or something changes to the point where I can't use it any more. Cakewalk would LOVE to acquire the rights, but can't find where to obtain them.

Another issue is support...suppose you have a problem with R-Mix and SONAR Titanium Mega Plus Turbo Ultra when it comes out in 2019. Cakewalk doesn't know the code, and I don't think Roland would want to support a product that no longer exists. As to Lexicon...I think Harman still owns them, but I'm not sure of the Pantheon's heritage.

Realistically, probably the best we could hope for is the "Bapu Solution" of having some kind of installer that prompts you to install from previous versions of software you own. I don't think Cakewalk could legally offer an installer containing the code they no longer license, but maybe they could offer an installer to install the code you've licensed. Maybe. Possibly. Who knows? I don't...but I do know lawyers charge by the hour
