BUY PLATINUM AND JUST INSTALL AD2, NOT LATEST SONAR ?
Wondering if I could get Platinum and just install Addictive Drums 2 (without installing the latest Sonar version).
Happy with X3 and all is working now after my computer(software) and soundcard didn't like eachother for a while.
So was hoping I can stay with X3 and just get the AD package which is a killer deal I thought...

Sure. The programs are only "bundled" in the sale. The installers are totally independent of one another.

Of course. But you'll likely want to get on board with Platinum before too long... it's pretty sweet and is very similar to X3 - meaning it will likely work just like X3 does with the same setup / hardware (it does here anyway). Plus you can install it next to it without running over or affecting X3 so you've got nothing to lose giving it a try. It's not even a particularly big download!

Another point to note is that the AD2 full version which comes with Platinum will not import your AD1 kit sounds. You need to purchase the AD2 'upgrade' if you want this. So any of your existing AD1 kits will still have to be played with AD1. FYI.

And I agree with others, it wont be long before you'll want to switch to Platinum!

what's the AD2 version after upgrading a "full" AD2 version? AD2 "fuller"? AD2 "obese"? seems like "full" is not really "complete"?

If you want to use your AD1 content in AD2 you have to upgrade so that your content will be converted to AD2 and will be usable in AD2.
What you get with Sonar is a full AD2 licence with 3 Adpaks and 3 MidiPaks. This is full functional but doesn't convert your old AD1 Adpaks (if you have some).

so how is that "full functional" if there's other functions it doesn't do? "full" means "all" or "everything"

I upgraded to AD2 at XLN when it came out. It was the same thing. There was an offer to upgrade every old content for a specific cost.
But you don't have to do it. You can use the old stuff in AD1 and if you buy any new Adpaks, the AD2 engine is for free.
Same thing now with what you get with Sonar.
Do you get the difference?
I already had AD2 and the upgrade. But the AD2 Producer means, that you get 3 Adpaks and 3 MidiPaks... The engine doesn't cost anything. So I chose some more Paks. Still a great deal.

Actually it's only one upgrade. When you upgrade, the engine (AD2) remains the same, but the upgrade sends you (via the installer) new AD2pacs to replace the old AD1pacs that you previously purchased. Walt

Yeah, I think that's about right - Platinum comes with AD2, not XLN's upgrade to AD2.

To the OP, why not install Platinum? Versions can co-exits and your membership starts when you place your order with CW so even though your did not install your 12 month membership clock is ticking.
And if you bought through a retailer you had to redeem your purchase to install AD2 and again, your membership clock would be clicking,
