the grammys are a farce, but i'm not sure how any of this is relevant. None of those stats have any bearing on whether one album is better than the other. Some of the greatest albums in history had tons of hands involved and some of the worst were one man jobs.

I certainly think it's relevant in the context of Kayne West implying that Beck didn't deserve to win an award, that he needs to respect "artistry" or that he doesn't possess "creativity."

I certainly think it's relevant in the context of Kayne West implying that Beck didn't deserve to win an award, that he needs to respect "artistry" or that he doesn't possess "creativity."
and those stats neither prove nor disprove any of those things. kanye's an arrogant loudmouth who likes doing things that bring attention to himself. I understand he makes people react, but making it a comparison to Beyonce seems odd. Unless you are claiming that album of the year is automatically awarded to the artist of a single producer generated album with the fewest amount of helpers the stats have no bearing on what "should" be album of the year. beyonce is a singer. Comparing a singer to a producer and instrumentalist is classic apples and oranges. is Pavarrati or any of the tenors any less than the guy sitting in his apt who happens to play several instruments at a coffee house every week? the very comparison is setup for bias confirmation. My buddy who is marginally talented finished an album in which he played 6-8 instruments but I'm not ready to compare him to any Pop singer.

You're really overthinking this. Or underthinking, I can't decide. The point is not to show, via statistics, who should have won the album of the year award. It's a reaction to West taking a swipe at the "creativity" of Beck in comparison to Beyonce, and telling Beck that he should "respect artistry." If his point was to take a dig at the artistry of Beck, then I'm not sure why he's using Beyonce as an example of the kind of "artistry" he needs to aspire to. On the one hand you have an album largely written and arranged by one guy who plays many of the instruments on his own records, in comparison with a manufactured teenybopper idol who uses a large team of producers and songwriters to churn out straight ahead top 40 hits.

My landlady/room mate Ann loves awards shows. Any awards show. So I missed the first 2 hours since I was working Sunday night and arrived home about 11 to her watching the last hour of the recorded show. If the first 2 hours were anything like the last hour of pop dreck, I consider myself fortunate.

As for that loudmouth douche, he got exactly what he want - everyone's talking about him on FB and Tweeter, and bloggers are plastering his name all over the place.
Personally, I've decided not to even type his name anymore and not to click any internet link related to him or his wife - I'm not feeding that cancer.
