Command Center improvements

Here are my suggestions for better user experience on new Command Center:

1. Let users pick a custom installation directory(!). There's another thread about this, so I don't go more into details.

2. Better yet, add an option to let users choose installation directory per installation, in other words, do not quietly suppress the option when installing an update. This would satisfy advanced users who want more control.

3. Don't force people to always download the installation packages again if they hit reinstall, add a separate option for it, or at least ask users if they want to use already downloaded installer instead.

4. Allow users to download installation packages separately without installation (also other thread about this).

5. Is reinstall really that important that it should show on selected product? I find it confusing that it shows there and first thought there wasn't even uninstalling option implemented. It would be more logical to have it on same menu where other admin features are, like right above uninstall option, you could add request 3. there too. Also, I'm not sure about the right click menu, you could add option for the product page like "Modify" and show those options under it or something, it would be more consistent than current way (but I get the idea that you don't want people to accidentally hitting those).

6. I can hide products, which is great. But how to unhide them? There should be some way to do this, in case I've hidden things that I want to access later on.

7. Serial numbers show on selected page, but no way to copy them to clipboard for easy copy/paste, maybe add a button for this or at least let users right click the serial and select copy to clipboard.

    8. If there's an update for the product I want to install, why doesn't the installer apply the update automatically when I do a clean install first time? I just installed Sonar, it downloaded it, and it then showed up with yellow light telling me that there's an update available. If I install something with automated installer, I'd expect it to always download and install the latest version automatically when I hit Install.

When there is an update available, it gives a link for more information.  That just goes to the Sonar page.  How about a link to a page that actually lists the changes made?

Also being able to choose where things go should go without saying.

10(?). Now that we see the first updates, updating process is really slow and tedious as you need to update items one by one and wait between the updates (which can take a while). Would it be possible to put "Update All" button somewhere? Even if you update Sonar itself, it doesn't update items under it.

If I've missed such option, please correct me :)

How do I NOT use this atrocity?

How do I check for updates WITHOUT this thing?

This may have already been mentioned but ......

    11) Chop the downloads up so that we only need to download whatever has been updated - not the whole concept.

For some of us on slow internet connections, we have to download the whole shebang (DimPro for ex in the latest update).

    Why ?

    Cheers,
    Jerry

I was wondering the same thing last night about D-Pro. They already have installers that can append stuff (free expansions for d-pro and rapture).

    Actually that reminded me of:

    12. Show and allow installing free expansions/extensions on command center. Why D-Pro and Rapture users have to find about these free extensions by themselves?

    14) If your internet cuts out for whatever reason, 3C starts downloading again once you reboot/get your internet back ..... from zero.

This happened to me this am when DimPro had reached 87%. A few rude words were said !

It would be great to have a fully working download manager built into 3C that can cope with a resume (ex. Free Download Manager and others).

    Cheers,
    Jerry

    +1 to all the above

I have another obvious request - should probably be 0) really :)

    15) Recognise what has already been installed from previous versions

So it can see that I already have Dim Pro, Rapture, all the various effects bundles etc installed!

++1 to all the above. Especially the fact that you can't choose the directory path for the content. All my other VI's allow me to choose where to put the content. I should have this option in the "new" Sonar like we had in X3.

    Yes.

Two internal 2TB SSDs laptop stuffed with Larry's deals and awesome tools. Studio One is the cat's meow as a DAW now that I've migrated off of Sonar. Using BandLab Cakewalk just to grab old files when migrating songs.

    16. Give us a repair/reinstall on each part
I had to uninstall first and then install again.
Had some funny things, that possibly was broken.

And uninstalling - I now have two Uninstall for Sonar?
I don't know what that is about.

I have just downloaded Rapture Pro - what pain  - install all should include everything - now I have to do individual updates to packs- very time consuming.

How about a little more information on what the install is - and where it is putting it and how to use it

Also don't show a product as Green - when clearly there are other components to still install

It occurs to me that the Cakewalk gurus who designed and coded Command Center should have beta tested it for a while longer, if they did so at all.

I've been sitting here thinking about the good ole days. You know the ones; where you could use a download manager to start your downloads from the store? Yeah, it was kinda a PITA, but at least you could run multiple DL's at a time and walk away? I'm sitting here again today waiting on each and every update and file from my Rapture Pro purchase and then waiting on the Sonar updates to DL. Not to mention the fact that you have to baby sit each file because when it finishes, you have to click the bottom of the window.

And to top it all off, then having to wait for the danged Command Center to refresh itself!!! AFTER EACH FILE FINISHES!! JEEESHHH!!

Come on Cakewalk, fix this thing (Command Center) so we don't have to waste so much time getting the updates and products we're PAYING FOR!!!!

Or at least go back to the old way until you get it fixed.

Does Rapture Pro show up in your CW account?  I understand that it needs to be authorized through CCC but wasn't sure about the download itself.

Steve, it does show up in my account but there is no way to download it. I was going to try that so I could burn the install files to a BD disk but my account page says there are no downloads available for this product. I do have download links to legacy products however.

I've just redeemed my Rapture Pro and registered it. In my account I see Rapture Pro with a raft of additional downloads under it. When I click Rapture Pro it creates a download link for me. You can then select multiple download one after another to download simultaneously. They will then appear in your default download location. If you then move them to the CCC download folder you could still use CCC to install them for you.

In the soon to be released CCC 1.1 you will have the option to run each installer through the CCC while being given acces to the verbose installer which will give options as before including installation location.

Why? Just create download links for each item you want to download. I can create 10 simultaneous downloads in IE. On completion, transfer to the CCC download folder and install via the CCC. In CCC1.1 yin will have more options as part one of upgrades to CCC.

perhaps you're doing something wrong. It's pretty simple, click on the item, it creates a download link in the same screen, click download. If it's not working you need to contact support as it will all still work as before. In any case if you've installed via CCC the downloaded installers should still be on your computer in the CCC download folder, unless you've deleted them deliberately. Despite doing that the Installers should still be available in your account as I described. There is no download link visible until you create it by clicking the file you want to download.

No there isn't a link as such. You create it by clicking the particular item. The Download link is then created in the same window on the right side underneath the details of what is in that download installer.

Just realised why my attempt to bypass CCC to fix my Clavinet pack didn't work. Account lists OX and Windows version separately. I probably downloaded the OX pack, so nothing was their to run it.

I realise posting this probably makes me look stupid, byt may help someone else not feel it.

I have not come across any documentation thus far (and not for the lack of looking for it) concerning the ability to choose where my programs will be installed on my computer.  I run a new Win 10, 64 bit, i7, 16GB system to which I've added a firewire card (my mistake for having bought the Motu 896 Mk3 before realizing that firewire would go the way of the dodo bird) and a small SSD.  I run a 128GB SSD as the primary OS drive, having relegated the original 1TB HD to secondary status.

I certainly don't have enough room on my small C drive to add everything to it.  I prefer to add bulky programs and content to the roomy D drive, but I don't think Command Center will give me this option.  Reading above, I'd say that I'm now more certain than ever that it won't.

Is it stands, Sonar Platinum is installed on my C drive, but I'd like to install everything else, plugins/effects, virtual instruments, content, etc., onto my D Drive - without using Command Center, of course.  Does anytone know if that will work?

I have not tried a manual install maybe someone who installs that way will answer too. This is a pretty old thread and predates some of the Command Center enhancements. The Command Center has a Verbose Install option on the Options tab in Settings. Verbose Install runs the installers as if they were run from the command line. Any prompt or switch available with a manual install should be available in the Command Center with Verbose Install enabled. There is also Path tab on the Command Center settings page with settings for VST2 install paths. The Settings page is accessed by clicking the gear in the upper right of the Command Center UI.
