[Solved] Moving Sonar project files from C drive to D drive
Very basic question, but just for my own peace of mind I thought I'd check here first.
I have a lot of my old project files saved on my C drive. But my C drive is almost full and I'd like to move them all to my D drive.
Can I simply cut the folders from C and paste them to D and not worry about anything getting lost or corrupted?
Anything I should keep in mind when doing this?

As long as they are per project folders projects, you should be ok.

I did that a while back, as I have an SSD for the OS and Sonar and a 1TB hard drive. I moved all the Cakewalk Project folder to the hard drive. I changed the location of the folder in Sonar and now projects get saved to the folder on the hard drive.

Don't forget to change the folder path in preferences and all will be well with per-project folders.

Although it isn't good if you have a lot of files, you can use SONAR's Save As to move the files wherever you want. Once you are caught up w/ old files, that is the method to keep your new files where you want them.

Thanks for the responses everyone. I was able to move a bunch of my older work files to clear some space on my C drive. Everything seems to be fine now. :)

I hope those are not your only copies? I would have also backed them up to a external drive. Having only one copy of each project is taking a huge risk of loosing all the files at once if the D drive goes down.

Thanks for you concern. I do regular backups to an external hard drive which I keep locked in a fire proof strong box. Haha! I know I should be backing up to a cloud service as well, but I haven't gotten around to it yet. But, yeah, all of my project files are in at least two places at all times.
