Automation Issue with Sonar X3

I am having a strange issue that only seems to be occurring in one project.  If I enable Automation Write on a Fader, the fader moves to a particular location (its not the same on every track), if I disable it, it moves back.  I tried this on pan as well and it is happening there to.  It it is panned to the right, I turn on automation it automatically goes to center.  Turn it off and it is panned right.  I have searched all over but can't find anything to cause this.  I have even made sure there is no volume envelope but still the same thing.  I have checked other songs and this is not happening on them.  This is occurring while the song is playing or when it is stopped and in any view.  I am running Sonar X3 update E

Sounds like you're in Offset mode (plus signs on Volume on Pan widgets). Automation Envelopes ride on top of any offset, so if you enable Write while in Offset mode, the widgets automatically switch to display envelope mode values. "O" on your keyboard toggles Offset/Envelope mode; it's easy to do inadvertently, and not notice, which is why that accelerator was deliberately disconnected in SONAR 2015.

Note that in SPlat, there is a dedicated button in the control bar and the function isn't bound to the O key

Thanks, I don't know how I missed that.  Anyone know what the Offset button would be used for?

    An example would be best.

Let's assume you've got a track with a fairly detailed envelope on it with lots of nodes & therefore level changes.

You decide the whole track needs to be shifted up or down by a few dB, so you have a choice.
    1. Painstakingly edit every node by the same amount
    2. Adjust the level via one of the many points in the audio chain (eg, track input gain but this isn't foolproof as the level fed to any subsequent plugins will also change which will mess up compressor thresholds and suchlike
    3. Pop into offset mode, change your track fader, then come out of offset mode.
The only drawback is that the displayed level will be different to that shown on your meters, but provided you know about it, it's not a problem.
