Is there no Help file or Documentation for Platinum?

The website help file has no search function like most help files have. Sure you can search the entire Cakewalk site, but it's gets too many results to sift through. A help file or documetation file existing on my HD can be searched easily. Any tips or suggestions?

The help is context sensitive so click on the area in Sonar you want help on and press F1

You could also try searching google like this...

    site:http://www.cakewalk.com/Documentation "fx bin"

(ignore the hyperlink just copy and paste the text, I can't seem to get rid of it)

"Always use Local help" check box is greyed out   I did a manual install and didn't find any help file

I'm not certain but it may be necessary to download the help and tutorial download which sadly is more than 3 times the size of Sonar itself... Over 1G...

It is greyed out because the help file did not get installed. The help is in the "SONAR Help and Tutorials" package, the actual installer is SONARHelp&Tutorials_1.0.0.7.exe

I did the manual install, because the Command Center install added quite a bit to my C drive. In fact the manual install only added 200 meg for 32 bit Platinum, since I opted to put Cakewalk Content on my D drive. I'll just download the help and tutorial to my D drive also and hopefully Platinum can find it, if not I can deal with it.

I did a manual install of the help + tutorials and it gave no option to save all this stuff on my D drive. After installing I manually moved it to my D drive Cakewalk Content. I hope they'll give us more options in the future for downloading the install files to the D drive and also installing on the D drive. Several of us like to keep out C drives as small as we can. My reason is all the Acronis image files I save.

The good news is now I do have a local help file - YES!.

Command Center needs to be more versatile so we don't have to ever do manual installs. I hope that's coming soon.

Well thank you John, that was nice. I remember you being really super helpful with issues I've had in the past, so thank you for your ways. Since I'm transitioning from 8.5 land to Platinum I hope you see a lots of posts by me, because that will mean I've successfully made the transition and just working through the problems and confusion that simply comes with the territory.

It's quite a struggle, but I've expected it to be. It's been a while since I've been here much and I'm encouraged by the amazing amount of dedicated help around here. I'm impressed.

We have your back. I'm not going to lie to you it will be a big change but it is well worth it. In a way you should forget most of what you know about Sonar 8.5 and sort of start from scratch. It would be a good idea to get Scott's book when is comes out on Platinum.

Your kind words are further proof of your quality of posting.

I posted that because you asked great questions that got interesting responses. It was in part how you framed the questions that were responsible for the good answers.

Its good to have you here.

    Gerry,
Can you tell me where Command Center puts the help + tutorials, or is it now called ("Local Documentation"?) so I can do the same type of move?
    Thanks,
    Steve

Yes it's called Local Documentation. Otherwise you have to use online Help, which I didn't like that much, back a year and a half ago when this thread was. Maybe it's better now, but I do like the local help. Be sure to select it here:

Preferences > File > Advanced > Tick "Always use Local help"

Also you'll find lots of good info in this thread. Check out the preferences in Command Center, choose verbose install (I think that's the term). They have improved Command Center you can now specify where to save all the downloads so your C drive doesn't' become bloated. Because of improvements in Command Center I always use it and never do manual installs unless something doesn’t work automatically in Command Center.

I still install the 32 bit version of Platinum also and have to do that manually by going to my download folder. Most of the FX installs lets you choose 32 and 64 bit during install. Always choose advanced during and install. Great to see you Steve, let me know if you have any more questions. I'm very pleased with Platinum after a difficult transition from 8.5 and 32 bit to 64 bit.
