Given you don't really need the fidelity to draw lines in Sonar, wouldn't constantly picking up a pen interface be more awkward/cumbersome than laying your hand over a mouse?

I suffer from pains in the wrists and hands and want to limit the use of the mouse

Instinct with a pen is to lock the wrist so that's a good choice then. I have a tablet but only ever used it for Painter... and I'm still to new to Sonar to offer any useful advice. I would at least say that your choice of nib may also have an impact. I'd try some different nibs as a way of fine tuning your experience.

Never thought to use my wacom tablet for that.  Have you tried using a track ball? Not intuitive for me but i know a few people with wrist issues that swear by them.

I've used a Wacom multi-touch tablet with Sonar and it works OK, though not as well as an iPad app such as V-Control Pro for some things.

The downside is you have to fight your way through Window's many assorted and often conflicting tablet PC and accessibility settings.

Sonar Platinum 64bit, Windows 8.1 Pro 64bit, I7 3770K Ivybridge, 16GB Ram, Gigabyte Z77-D3H m/board,
ATI 7750 graphics+ 1GB RAM, 2xIntel 520 series 220GB SSDs, 1 TB Samsung F3 + 1 TB WD HDDs, Seasonic fanless 460W psu, RME Fireface UFX, Focusrite Octopre.
Assorted real synths, guitars, mandolins, diatonic accordions, percussion, fx and other stuff.

i have an old wacom and over 1.5 decades have developed a solid right hand pen left hand mouse technique but the knobs on Sonar (and older CW versions) have never been pen friendly.  I think the pen is some good variety and adds to thoughtful moments as you can tap it and always stick it behind your ear.  In Sound Forge with the pen/mouse combo I am wicked fast at editing using the mouse wheel to zoom and the pen to mark positions on the timeline.

Great question.  I have one gathering dust, maybe will get it out and try.  The constant mousing in sonar X series is driving me to come to user forums and complain.

Thanks a lot for all your replies! Seems that it's not the solution... not precise enough...I fear that the trackball is not so ergonimic...
Maybe a Roland V Studio 700 C ??
