CWBRN-31610 Performing update of Sonar Platinum content resets control bar customisations

This is more of a heads up than anything...

I went in to the Cakewalk Command Centre and noticed there were some content updates.  I dutifully applied them.  When I restarted Sonar it wanted to do a rescan of the audio devices. When Sonar's GUI became available, I saw that all of my control bar customisations had reset to default.  Fortunately I had last nights backup data which included the registry entries for the controller bar.  I reloaded this *.reg file and my control bar customisations had returned to what they were immediately before the update.

The commands shown below indicate the commands to include in a backup script that will back up your control bar configuration.  The "D:\Data files\Reg Keys" below would be changed to indicate where you wish to back up the *.reg file: to restore the control bar customisation, simply double click on the previously backed up *.reg file to reintegrate the data into your Sonar Platinum configuration.
---
::Save Sonar Platinum Control Bar configuration
regedit /e "D:\Data files\Reg Keys\Sonar Platinum Control Bar.reg" "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Cakewalk Music Software\SONAR\Platinum\MCBControlBar"
---

I thought I would post this before anyone does an update and wonders where their control bar customisations got to.

I backed up the entire Cakewalk Music Software\SONAR\Platinum tree and compared it after installing the Sound Center and Studio Instrument 1.0.0.8 updates.

After the two installs in Command Center nothing in the registry was changed.  The change happen when I started Sonar and it asks about customizing the install.  It doesn't matter what I chose (I tried it both ways by restoring my registry), it overwrote my Control Bar settings and reset my effects plugin menu to the Platinum Effects.pgl menu layout.

Thanks for the heads up. I rarely use either of these instruments.

Now I'm wondering if this a the "monthly update" for Feb.

Any ideas what's new with the updates?

I used the script to generate a reg backup, did the update of Sound Center, checked to see if Sonar had reset the control bar as described (it had), ran the reg backup and checked again and all was back to the way I like it. Thanks!

By the way what was the other content update? I haven't installed everything from Command Center yet as it was mostly there from X3P. I guess it's preferable in the long run to have everything under central control...

Yes I can confirm this does reset your control bar, far worse if you cancel the personalisation then come out and start again, I had forgotten to turn on my keyboard controller silly furry brained me, it still wants to run the customisation.

Sorta weird that updating these instruments would make changes to Sonar.

Makes me a bit wary of applying any updates.

So, how about a control-bar preset saving/loading function?

I have a feeling the C3 version rollback is not going to rollback the CB registry entries wiped out by the personalization process. It is going to reinstall the previous version of the selected package. There is no unpersonalize process. I can only guess there was something needing to be reset in the registry after these updates and the personalization process was the most expedient method of making those changes.

Looking at what changed in the registry there doesn't appear to be any need to reset anything.  This is just a side effect of how the initialize settings "feature" works in Sonar.  Sonar shouldn't reset everything or anything even.   Very disappointed so far with Platinum.  There are so many new bugs with the piano key roll that they haven't addressed at all and this update process appears to have major issues as well.
