[Solved] SONAR X3 Studio and SampleTank 3... no audio

Hi folks,
Having trouble getting SONAR X3 and Sampletank 3 to work together.  Have searched through the threads here but haven't found anything yet I can relate to.  Based on what I have seen, I am attempting to run SampleTank as a VST-2.

Problem: Not getting any audio with the SampleTank 3 plugin.  To simplify things I have set up a sample project with just (1) MIDI track, (1) Audio track, and a Master Bus.  With that I can load one of the VST's that came bundled with SONAR and make it work.  So then I delete that plug-in and load SampleTank 3 as a VST-2 in the audio track [fx] and select SampleTank 3 as the output for the MIDI track.  Everything else stays the same.

But it doesn't work.  When I select a patch on the SampleTank controller, set the MIDI channel in Sonar to match and press a key on my MIDI controller keyboard, the corresponding red key on the SampleTank virtual keyboard lights up and the meter moves on the SONAR MIDI track strip... but no audio is heard and the meter does not move on the Sonar audio track strip.  So the MIDI signal is getting into SONAR but it does not result in audio coming out.

Can anyone please give me any clues for what to try next?  Will appreciate any help...

thanks,
Ken

I can't really give you any hints at the moment ( studio computer is shut down for the night) but I can tell you that I have been using Sampletank 3 with Sonar X3 Producer with no problems so it is possible. I'll look into it more when I boot up the studio tomorrow and see if I can come up with any help.......

When you get it to run, let me know what you think about it ...

I had installed the free version of ST3, but was very disappointed that IK disabled the feature to use the legacy instruments (which was available in ST 2).

Anyway, I still quite like some sounds from the Sample Tron and Sample Moog VSTs but these are virtually the only 32 bit plugs left on my system ... However, I'm not paying what they ask for ST3 just to get my old payed-for sounds into a 64 bit plug ...

Don't know if you're aware of Sampletank 3 SE, which allows import of legacy sounds...It's $100 (Though you can always wait for one of their sales to get it at half off).

Thanks for the info, but I had seen that - probably won't get it, though, at least not as long as the jBridged old plugs don't drive me nuts.

I'm a bit upset that they give this out for free to their iToys users while they don't do it for those who bought all of their serious mixing plugs like TRackS suite, Amplitube, etc. especially as they failed to ever release a 64 bit upgrade for their now legacy sounds ... they now charge about as much as you pay for a superb WAVES plug just to have what bought long time ago anyway ... (IK OBI are you listening??? give your long term users something like Cakewalk does!!)

Tried it with Sampletank 3 SE in Sonar X3e and it's working for me ! Instead simply drag Sampletank 3 (vst2) from the explorer to an empty space in the the track view ? It should create one track (audio+midi) or many - it will ask you !

    Does it work ?

Okay, working now!   Turns out that things in SONAR were fine but I was just not getting the patch properly loaded in SampleTank.  Got it now.  Can start trying out 4,000 new sounds.  :-)

Have been using Sonar v1.3 for the past 10 years with Sonic Synth running in SampleTank LE.  So upgrading to SONAR X3 and SampleTank 3 at the same time requires an old dog learning lots of new tricks all at once.

baldar: I'm wondering about what you said about  'simply drag Sampletank 3 (vst2) from the explorer to an empty space in the the track view ?  It should create one track (audio+midi) or many'  Maybe this is a new trick in SONAR?  The 'old way' worked for ST3 once I got the patch loaded properly.   But if there is a new trick I would like to know it.  So, when you say: drag ST3 from the 'explorer'.... what is the explorer?

Sorry Hooperken - i meant the Browser

I find it a lot easier to create an instrument track this way (by dragging)
    Cheers
