Advanced key bindings - based on 2 or 3 consecutive MIDI messages
I want to put this up for discussion as for myself this would be a very helpful feature
Here's the situation: you can bind almost any sensible action in Sonar to a key stroke or a MIDI message ... now I have a large MIDI controller or control surface in front of me which is nicely mapped. However, it also has SHIFT and CTRL and ALT keys which have some functionality, but quite a few of the possible combinations are idle and hence I'd like to assign them to something ...
When you listen in using a standard MIDI tool you see that each button press (SHIFT, CTRL, ALT) sends a Note On and Note Off message and if you press e.g. ALT + TRACK you get 4 consecutive MIDI messages (first ALT key on and off, then TRACK key on and off) ... now I can only map either, but not the 2 together
I tried to use a MIDI translator in between (BOME) but it is so painfully complicated that if I would get it to run, I wouldn't be able to change/extend months later because it's definitely not intuitive ...
So my suggestion would be instead of offering just a MIDI shift (which BTW causes problems recording MIDI data from an e-drum kit after being used) I would benefit from being able to bind 2 or 3 MIDI messages (received within a configurable time window) to one Sonar action ...
Anyone else???
