this place is sure boring compared to "upstairs"
You guys all playing ping pong and air hockey, down here in the basement, are missing the chaotic party upstairs on the top floor....
No fights are anything....long way for that to happen, I'd think...but a lot of grumbling peeps, crashing on their Sonar high. Thinking another hit of Sonar would keep them high for the weekend, seems some bad stuff might be going around instead.

We have gone from a cycle of one major release a year where everybody goes batnoodles for a few months then things chill out (until the next release or patch) to an estimated monthly release where there can be perpetual chaos throughout the year. This is so crazy new that I think we are going to have that pre and post release spazziness until exhaustion sets in. Then it will only be the die hard wig out masters digging their heels in. That is of course only if Cake keeps things on track. If they don't keep up with patches and decent updates it will be a very frightening place indeed but they seem to be busting their collective arses to make it work. Mostly seems to be calm to semi angsty problem reports that get hopped on by the Bakers rather quickly. IDK... it's new but it seems like things are going in the right direction. They fixed one thing that had been driving me INSANE in X3 so that's good. Time will tell.

It will be interesting to see how it pans out over this first year, but even more so in the following year. If my membership had just expired, I must be honest and say I would not have renewed on the strength of the Braintree upgrade. There's a few nice things like the new impulse responses for ReMatrix, but not enough to have persuaded me to pay for another year. I am a little concerned by the introduction of time-limited stuff like the Hardgroove loops, as it would appear that this might be Cake's method of dissuading customers from allowing their membership to lapse. I was under the impression that whenever one bought into Platinum, you would immediately be entitled to everything that had gone before, or something like that. After my initial optimism with the new model, I have to say I've found the first month's offerings a little underwhelming. But hey, it's early days and they have another eleven months to win me back.

If you snag a full year membership then my understanding is you keep all that extra stuff so even if you lapse after the year you still own it (in this case Hardgroove stuff). It's if you are going month to month and let it lapse then you lose it which kind goes with what they've been saying but not necessarily articulated. Like with the X2 Content Club there was no option to lapse so whenever you bought in you would get all the stuff from that point forward but not what was release before. Now with the month to month if you lapse you lose the "content club" type stuff. Another interesting point is I think the "Braintree" moniker is actually just the name for this month's release. I initially thought it was going to be the official ongoing name for the extra content for members only but the way the way are wording it it's like the next release will have a new name like "Hoopadoop" or Bleepledeederp". Perhaps we can have a contest for best update names?

Beep, I think the names they are using are places in and around the Boston area, and I'd assume they're going in alphabetical order. I know the first version started with 'A', now we have Braintree. I suppose they have to call them something to distinguish them from each other.

That's how it came across to me. I even asked the question of CW that this being the case, was there was any real disadvantage in waiting a year or longer to see how it pans out before registering an upgrade and therefore commencing the "membership" period and was told by CW that the only "risk" was that they could not guarantee that in a year's time, for example, that certain 3rd party VSTs like AD2 would still be included as part of Sonar because it would obviously depend upon continuing agreements with said 3rd parties or it may have been replaced by something else. They do seem to be backing away from that statement and now it seems to depend on whether they consider the extra "content" to be part of the program or not. I'm still very whelmed by the whole upgrade so far.

Kind of silly but whatever works. Baps and I were discussing people referencing build numbers for communicating on the forum for the new model but this has a little more character and probably easier to remember/recognize. As far as what is and is not included when you buy back in after a lapse I asked about this as soon as they released Braintree. If you go to the monthly release page where it is showing all the new stuff (and previous stuff) anything on the list that says "Only Available Though Braintree" (or whatever the wording is) is the stuff that would be missed out on. Everything else you would get. HOWEVER they also said that those particular items would eventually be made available in the store for people to buy if they missed out (so you could buy the Hardgroove stuff a la carte if you wanted to). They only mentioned the stuff for this month though. I commented that that should be the permanent model so that late adopters/lapsers have the option to get EVERYTHING if they are willing to pay a premium after the fact. It would be like having the option to purchase the old X2 Content Club after the fact if you bought in too late... except this stuff looks better.

Now that I think about it, I think ESPN2 has Japanese Samurai Ping Pong late at night. It tested out better with audiences than Sumo Ping Pong. That was a bit disturbing. Speaking of things that end up in unfortunate places, is this thread okay now?
