February - new original song

This is an original song about my dislike of the month February
It's called February Chill Malaise - written and performed by me

https://soundcloud.com/skyblueproductions/february-chill-malaise

February chill malaise
On grey and empty winter days
Bring a cold reality
To the hurt you laid on me

February's memory
That brings ironic smiles to me
Nothing for the cold inside
The pain that cannot be denied

February chill malaise
Gets me in so many ways
Drink will only the numb pain
Next February - back again

February's memory
That brings a sordid history
Love to keep it locked away
But it will be again some day

February chill malaise
On grey and empty winter days
Bring a cold reality
To the hurt you laid on me

February's memory
That brings ironic smiles to me
Nothing for the cold inside
The pain that cannot be denied

February chill malaise
Gets me in so many ways
Drink will only the numb pain
Next February - back again

February's memory
That brings a sordid history
Love to keep it locked away
But it will be again some day

Nice one Daryl. Reminded slightly of Janis Ian's '17'. Liking the lyrics, darker than usual, but nothing wrong with that. Cool production, sounds good through my headphones. Don't like February much either, roll on Spring.

I like February because without it I would not have a birthday, nice tune Daryl done with your usual style.

Really cool song  Daryl!!....you'll be glad it's March? I think the slight auto tune could go either way. I like your voice without it too! I can relate to bad memories in Febuary too....love the lyrics on this.

Thanks James - the darkness is a reflection of my contempt for the month :)
The average temperature this February in Rochester NY was 12 Fahrenheit (-12 Celsius) - the coldest Feb in history.

What a nice song!  I really like the mix of a kind of cheery or light melody (to me it has a slight Brazil 66 touch) with the dark lyrics.  The pulling in and out of those great guitars at the appropriate points effectively changes the relationship between the melody and lyrics.  Great effects on your vocals and good vocals btw.
Really good stuff Daryl!!!

Buggles! That's a good compliment. Somehow I'd bring up the upper end of this, or maybe just restrain the bass a tad. I wanted to hear the synth lines, cymbals, and your excellent voice just a bit more, a bit brighter. Maybe you are low and thick by emphasis, to fit the song concept. ?

Congrats on having a really good singing voice!!! Yeah, that would be jealousy, adding those extra exclamation marks  :)

cheers,
-Tom

Thanks very much Wookie - just think how young you would be (and stay) if you didn't have February though :)

You have definitely carved out a niche for your sound.  I am liking your stuff Daryl.  I'm sitting in a cottage on Pacific Beach looking out the window at the surfers and sunrise.  Makes february a distant memory.  4 days.  ha!  Imagine, though, a world with no furry songwriter (Wook) just because we stole february.  You know, buddy, I just listened to Mermaid again and I like it more every time I hear it. Keep up the great work, Daryl.

Maybe it would be enough if you just end the song on a major chord no need to go into full major mode:D Thanks anyway for the very good song. Keep them coming, please!

Very cool song, playing, mix. The over production is perfect on my system.  You nailed the highs/lows, space and not filling up the song with too much sound.  Great lead voc sound and attitude.
