Water (How is that for an attention grabbing song title?!?!)

Here is a little number that reflects on some of the changes that I have seen over the years in Florida.  It deals with one resource which I have loved best and has changed the most given this state's growth during the 1960's through 1990's .  That of course is water which creates the rivers, lakes, beaches, bays, and mangrove swamps in which I have spent a lot of time.

This is definitely not a Blues number and as such I am again venturing out of my comfort zone.  If you listen, I hope that you enjoy it and comments would be very much appreciated.

Thanks and thank you Sons of the Pioneers!

Nice tune Freddy, perhaps a little space around the vocal and just a tad louder would be nice on them.

Hi Freddy, nice song, Neil Young-ish. Guitars are quite brittle sounding, whereas the vocals are a little muffled.

Hi John.  Thanks for the listen and for the help.  I have brought the vocals forward a bit and tried to clear them up a bit.  I hope that it sounds better now.  Thanks again.

Hey Jack.  I have worked with a lot of municipal, county, and state "water guys" and the Florida Water Pollution Control Operator's Association and you're absolutely right!  It is the water ;>)  Thanks I appreciate your taking the time to listen and comment.

Hey Ward.  I appreciate the kind words.  Thanks for listening.

Thank you James.  I purposely tried to get a treble-ish or even a tinny kind of sound on the guitars.  I was trying to get a '60's sound like the British group the Honeycombs.  I guess it didn't work --huh?  I did bring the vocals forward and messed with them a bit.  I hope that helped.  Thanks for the suggestions.

I'd bring the guitars down during the vocals, and I' d bring the bass up. You drum cymbals seem to have a bit of flange, which might be a choice? What are you using for drums here?

Liked the harmonica, and I thought your chorus with background vocals was the strongest point.

Nice nod to the Sons of the Pioneers!

I like the S.O.P sound of this, buddy.  I don't know if I've heard 3 harmonies from you before but I like them.  Good song, Freddy.

I like the arrangement choices you did for this song. It feels a lot like 1950s rock n roll to me, and sort of inspires me to try something like this.
How did you do the chorus effect? Is it 'faked'? Or it's multiple overdubbed vocals? Nice song!

Yes also reminded me of Neil Young, and not in a bad way :)
Vox could come up a tad. Also I envision some other instrument playing some counterpoint melodies on the parts leading up to the chorus.
    I enjoyed that Freddy.

Really like this Freddy - harmonies are great in the Chorus and the harmonica coming in there is a nice touch later on

Thanks Tom.  The Sons used to put out some really great harmonies didn't they?  The drums were put together from Smart Loops WAV loops.  I used them just as they came.  I'll take a look again at the volume levels.  Thanks for listening and for the suggestions.

Hi Warren.  I have tried 3-part harmony before the only difference is that this time it got relatively close to working.  Thanks for listening an commenting buddy!

Hey David.  The chorus is just me, three times over, trying to hit the notes after reading a piece on singing harmony. It took me a lot of takes to get even close to what it should be.  I appreciate your listening and commenting.  Thanks.

Thank you Gus.  Ya, I'll go back and check on the volumes.  I hadn't thought of the counterpoint instrumentation.  I have to look in to that.  Thanks for the suggestions.

Thanks Daryl.  I very much appreciate your kind comments

nice work, Freddy!  man your mixing has improved SO much since you first started posting here!

you're pretty heavily compressed/limited on everything, I'd back off on that and let the song breathe a little.

other than that, this is really good!

Hi Monty.  I am glad that you liked this number.  Thanks for listening and for the kind comments.

Thanks Reece.  I have received quite an education here on the forum and thank everyone for their input and patience.  Thanks for pointing out that my compression/limiting has been increasing.  I went back and checked out some of my older stuff and I was getting fairly high DR readings on those (~12 to 14).  The last few songs that I have done are in the 8 to 9 range.  I'm going to have to work on getting those numbers back up.  Thanks again.
