Update 1 : Hang after inserting new boz Bark of Dog

After inserting the new boz Bark of Dog Pro Channel module, Sonar Platinum hangs
I tried 3 or maybe 4 times, and had to terminate Sonar after a significant period of waiting.
No more details than this I'm affraid

Thanks
Andy

Hi Andy not having that problem here seems to work OK, any chance of a few more system details like driver mode and buffer sizes?

Hi Wookiee
Thanks again for a reply.
I reviewed my config and it had been reset so I increased my playback buffer size.
This did not solve the issue, playback was not in operation during the hang.
I did receive an exception (c0000005 / ACCESS_VIOLATION) during further attempts to add the module.
This prompted me that I had not performed a system restart since applying Braintree update.
Since restarting my machine, the module now functions perfectly.

Andy

I always perform a system restart after any major software install.  It may be overkill but I like giving the system the opportunity to do its thing! Especially now that Windows 8.1 startup is so quick, why not?

Peace!

Yes I tend to do restarts too, it just lets everything get resettled.  Glad you resolved your issue Andy.

Hi,
Same Problem with ALL BOZ products (used as ProChannel modules). System restarts, trying the next day.. nothing. I am going to uninstall, and then reinstall starting with the purchased BOZ, and then reinstalling Bark of Dog last (I did it first, before).
Thanks,
Chuck,

ps- here is a copy of what I sent to Cakewalk via the feedback button -

Hi. I purchased all of the BOZ plugins, and whenever I try to use them (INCLUDING the new Bark of Dog) as a ProChannel module, Sonar does a HARD CRASH. I mean, it just dies! I seem to be able to use the comp/eq, eq, and comp in an FX Bin in the ProChannel, but even there the Compressor and Comp/Eq seem to crash Sonar here and there. I don't even get as far as pressing play or anything... I just add the fx and when it appears (sometimes messing up the GUI part of the ProChannel ,too) is when the program dies. Oh, and while the EQ (in the FX Bin) seems to be alright, using either the comp or the comp/eq causes ongoing stuttering (on/off, like a squarewave volume vibrato). I am using Win7Pro, Sonar Platinum, and have updated via Comand Center. Thanks!

Before you reinstall them re-download first.

Re: Update 1 : Hang after inserting new boz Bark of Dog 2015/03/02 15:08:42 (permalink)
Hi John,

Thanks for getting back to me. Unfortunately,  (almost) no change whatsoever. I redownloaded the David Bendeths. This time I only installed the 32 bit VST2 dll, the 64bit VST3, and the 64bit ProChannel for the Eq & Comp each (last time I installed all VST, just omitting RTAS and AAX). I installed them and then installed the Bark of Dog through the Command Center. I then rebooted my PC, then opened Sonar. I then selected manual scan (in VST preferences) with rescan failed AND rescan existing plugins selected. I did the Reset (which auto scans as well, I noticed), and then - just for good measure - when it had finished I also Scanned as well. I then closed, rebooted, and started up Sonar. AND... weeeelll...

The EQ ProChannel plugin now seems to work (yay!). The Comp and the Bark of Dog still kill Sonar instantly . Also, in the FX bin - I didn't seem to see any instabilities, but it's only been a few minutes. The EQ and Comp/EQ both seem to work fine, but the Compressor plugin still causes sputter/stutter in the audio when on (although simply turning off/bypassing the effect makes it go away - ie - just sitting there in the FX bin while off doesn't affect the audio). I of course had to reopen Sonar multiple times so as to try each plugin because of the "crash of death"....

I don't know if it's worth mentioning, but prior to this re-do, I was having a problem with a lot of the icons not appearing in the dialog that pops up when selecting ProChannel modules. However, now that I have done all this and rescanned the heck out of VSTs, I notice that they are all there now. I'm not really worried about that, but since I noticed something about a registry conflict causing this (from another thread while I was searching for this topic), I thought I should throw it in as well.

Aside from all of this, the Sonar Braintree update at least seems to be otherwise working so far, so no problems with making music. And if Bark of Dog never worked I would be let down, but ya can't miss what you've never heard, eh? But I am extremely distressed and let down over the David Bendeth plugins, especial since I have shelled out $100 bucks... if I can't get them to work, is there any way to get a refund?

thanks for any and all help,
chuck

It works Chuck. Thank you for a really comprehensive reply. I don't know how you might go about fixing this except I would try one last time to completely uninstall Sonar Platinum with all its components and reinstall everything via C3.  Its a lot of work I know but with the issues you are having I think it may need to be done. Unless you have a good reason for installing 32 bit plugins I would avoid doing so.

Sorry about this.

Re: Update 1 : Hang after inserting new boz Bark of Dog 2015/03/02 16:00:57 (permalink)
Hi Chuck

I installed BOZ (Dog & David Bendeth) and Braintree on main and backup system and have experienced no issues, even when testing with heavily loaded projects, adding BOZ to both ProChannel and FX ... just to let you know it will work once you figure out what causes it :-)

By default I installed all versions of the plug-in (I just didn't care) because Sonar now does a good job of selecting 64 bit instead of 32 bit ... anyway, as regards crashes and odd behaviour the prime suspect is still a 32 bit component - pls double check if BOZ (or any other plug-in used) is 32 bit. One of the quickest ways of doing this is looking in the task manager and see whether there is BitBridge or auxhost (in case you are using jBridge) showing in the task manager just before the crash.

Re: Update 1 : Hang after inserting new boz Bark of Dog 2015/03/02 16:04:35 (permalink)
Hi John,

Thanks again for the quick response. I do have reasons (other programs...>>sorry<<) for keeping 32bit plugins on my system. I may end up removing all of them, eventually, but I'm really just hung up on the BoD & these Bendeth plugs. Do you think it would work out if I just told Sonar to NOT scan any VST folders in the "Program Files (x86)" directory (ie-remove that directory from the list in the VST prefs), or are there things in there that Sonar needs to see (remember, I'm only talking about the list of directories to scan for VSTs in the VST preferences)??

So... wow, uninstall everything... that is a lot of work! Ok, if that's the only thing left... Here's a few of questions for you first -
1. By C3, do you mean the Command Center? (I haven't gotten hip to that abbreviation, yet ;) )
2. I still have SonarX2 Producer AND SonarX3 Producer installed. Should I uninstall them as well?? (It does seem that Sonar Platinum is otherwise working fine for me)?
3. Do I need to actually uninstall everything (ie - D-Pro, Rapture, Melodyne, Addictive Drums), or just Sonar and it's goodies (found in the sub-tree below Sonar in the Command Center)???
4. Should I also uninstall and reinstall the Command Center before reinstalling Sonar?

Thanks for all your help, John! I really do appreciate it!!
chuck

ps - I'm gonna have to do all this tonight or tomorrow (cause it's way too time consuming for right now). I hope I can give you a happy post tomorrow - wish me luck!!

Yes it would work to remove that 32 bit directory from the scan path. Just make sure you don't loose any 32 bit plugins you do really want. I know that sounds contradictory to what is above but you can place really useful 32 bit plugins into another folder and just scan that. I would do a reset too.

I would definitely try this first as it is a lot less effort (than reinstalling) and may help you/us understand what is actually causing this.

Make notes of what you currently have as your VST paths.
Take out everything pointing towards 32 bit plugs.
RESET VST.
Rescan VST.
Check the "Default All Plugin" layout  if you still have 32 bit plugs on your system (32 bit will be colored green if you look at your plugin list in Sonar's "Browser/"Audio FX").
Report back if the problem persists ...

And as John pointed out: You may keep 32 bit plugs (they ain't all evil), but I'd add them back in at a later stage (selectively), once you got BOZ working ...

Darn ... all worked fine after installing Dog & David Bendeth - and NOW a few days later (after all this reassuring that it works) it happens to me as well:

The Comp and the Bark of Dog still kill Sonar instantly .

What is happening here??? X3 and Platinum ... insert BOZ and off you go ...

aemmett - could you figure out what caused your problem ???

Interesting, it worked in the FX bin but immediately crashed in the ProChannel ...

Reset VST and VST scan did not fix it ...

Re-install BOZ Benedeth series and then reset VST and VST scan now seemed to fix it (also the Dog which I did not reinstall)

Very strange. Never had that happen with any plug before ...

I had the same issue with 10db on the pro channel. Support recommended I disable my startup items in Windows and that solved the issue for me. I installed Bark after this and haven't had any issues with that either. I ended up adding the tBone eq as well--the boz stuff is working great across the board.

Thanks. could you please share a bit more detail as regards which startup items you disabled?

I don't seem to have this is issue on my main DAW, which is offline and all start up items disabled. I can reproduce it, though, on my 2nd system, which is allowed to access the www ... hence I cant' just arbitrarily disable everything in msconfig ...

Could anti-virus be causing this? Couldn't find any evidence in the anti virus logs, but you never know???

Access violations usually point to a
user or program access privilege issue.
Certain files need to be placed in specific places
on your hard drive for Sonar to work properly.

Windows needs the program that is making a
request write to your hard drive to be run "as administrator"
or it will block write access to areas it decides
it(installer)/you(user) do not have "permission from the administrator"
to be writing in.

There are probably parts of Braintree and BOZ that
are not being written to completion.

Making sure that YOU(user) are running a profile that has
administrative permissions,

Start->/CONTROL PANELS->/USER ACCOUNTS

and running your INSTALLER(CCC) "as administrator"

(RIGHT-CLICK the CCC installer, chose "run as administrator" from
the drop-down menu)

will give you a better shot at
an install with fewer 'random bugs' following it.

Peace
Mel

p.s.
Yes, it is  a good idea to turn off any anti-virus software while installing;
you and I have no idea what an AV program will view as "su****ious activity",
and it will always block access to areas it deems "sensitive" in
an attempt to protect your system.

On my system it's definitely reproducible that BOZ DOG has a problem with MONO tracks ... it either crashes immediately when inserted into ProChannel of mono tracks, or when inserted into the next track afterwards (irrespective if it is a mono or stereo track) ... strange but true ... dump files uploaded

Re: Update 1 : Hang after inserting new boz Bark of Dog 2015/03/08 06:47:19 (permalink)
Ok, been busy but...
Tried taking 32bit references out of the VST scan paths in VST prefs., uninstalled and reinstalled all BOZ. No go, same nasty crash as ever. So I uninstalled Sonar, all BOZ, and EVERYTHING in Command Center except for Addictive Drums. Then re-installed everything. No change at all... Still has death crash upon insertion of any BOZ as ProChannel module, as well as the BOZ eq/comp plugin (the on with both, bot the individual) causing a crash intermittently.
Man, am I tired of wastin time on these plugins... I could care less about Bark of Dog but I paid $100 bucks for the Bendeth plug ins and I am pissed!
Yes, I reset AND rescanned (failed and existing both checked)! I have all current drivers for operating system and interface and, etc.... (I keep my gear up to date!).

AND NOW (on somewhat of a side note) - after the update I just now did to SONAR 3:30am PST 03/08/15 (it was yellow on command center), I am seeing crashes when I try to save! What?! Well, I am sure gonna try and reinstall Sonar again, but I am at my wits end... I want to make music, not twiddle my computer!

One question - someone metioned installing as an admin... I will try this, but my question is really if I should run Command Center as Admin to install??
Thanks everybody...

Re: Update 1 : Hang after inserting new boz Bark of Dog 2015/03/08 07:38:10 (permalink)
ok - my head is really messed up by this now. I uninstalled ALL BOZ and then reinstalled them (running the installers as Admin). Alas, no change at all, BUT...

FreeFlyBert mentions mono, so on a hunch I did the following (FWIW - all the tracks that I have been using have been mono 44.1 and 24bit) -

 1. While stopped (not playing), I clicked the interleave button from mono to stereo.
 2. Oddly, I noticed the ProChannel overloading, traced it to the eq, turned that off, it settled down, and turned it back on again at which point it was no longer red/overloading. This part may have no bearing at all - I don't know.
 3. Now in stereo, I inserted Bark of Dog, and lo and behold - it is working perfectly! Whether playing back audio or not - No crash!
 4. I inserted the BOZ EQ and the Comp ProChannel modules as well and they were stable and worked as well!!
 5. Here's the WEIRD and FUNKY part. For no good reason (while the audio playback was stopped), I decided to toggled the interleave button back to mono. It continued to work fine! I sure don't know what the heck that means, but it has been repeatable 3 times now!
 6. I have also saved in stereo with Bark of Dog inserted, closed SONAR, and reopened and all works well from that startup. I also then retoggled back to mono (which continued to work as it did before) and then saved, closed SONAR, and reopened and it worked then as well. SONAR only seems to crash out when first inserting the BOZ plugins as ProChannel modules into a mono track! I don't understand why, but it is completely repeatable on my system.

I remember when the Console Emulator was getting all buggy and causing a resonant (screaming loud) pitch when used in mono back in the X3c update. Maybe there is a similar coding or (??) problem???

*on a footnote, the one project that was crashing on save (post update) is still having a problem. I am thinking that somewhere in this process it has become corrupted or (???). 2 other projects (this same one from a previous saved version and a different song) are fine, so I'm just gonna roll with it for a bit. Sorry about gettin' all bent.

Hi Chuck, thanks for doing all this ... despite the fact that you actually intended to make music ;-)

So you pretty much reproduced my problem on your system and came to same conclusion that something is probably not coded 100% correctly yet for the mono track case ... I think it's now really up to Cakewalk and/or BOZ to review the MONO case and whether they initialize everything correctly in the code.

BTW, I had also noticed the overloading indicator on the EQ and had no clue why this is happening because it was a new project where I had just inserted a brand new track ... strange ...

Well there's obviously something going on but nobody seems to be able to nail it to specific steps right now...
I couldn't get it to crash on mono tracks so probably need more specific steps...

Cheers..

Hey guys, I'm looking into this right now. So far I'm not able to reproduce the issue. Some of you that are having the issue, can you please email me directly at  ? I would like to have you try a couple of things.

Thank you.

Hi All
I originally created this thread and can see that it has become very busy since I had some initial success with Bark of Dog (BOD). I have a new hang issue now with it so thought I'd share in case anyone else has seen it ...

The new issue occurs when I try to insert BOD onto a simple instrument track created for Rapture.
With this configuration, there is no interleave button...
I have a mini and full dump (5GB) generated by Process Explorer if this is useful to those with debug symbols.

Regards
Andy
