SONG: Night Shift
Hi, I've got another new song on Soundclick if anyone is interested in having a listen. It's called Night Shift and you can find it here: http://soundclick.com/share.cfm?id=13064622 It was started in X3, but finished up in Platinum (not that that really matters) This one has a neat groove with an Acoustic Bass (Trilian) and Drums (Superior Drums). Add to that some Telecaster and a little bit of Strat (for the whammy), and some fun with with a filter. Please let me know what you think ;-)

Nice groove going on this and there are some nice touches throughout. Reminds a bit of a ZZ Top. Regards, Dan

Nice one!!! I love instrumentals and it seems as if it is impossible to find any getting airplay any more. This number has a lot of restricted energy in it (just like the old time raunchy rock instrumentals, some rockabilly and Blues, and some jazz). That is a style I really like. That acoustic bass sounds good. I would like it brought forward just a wee bit. Very nice indeed.

You have arranged things very well - very quirky - it definitely kept me listening! I'm gonna go out on a limb and say there was something going on in the bass besides just acoustic bass. Did you double it with a synth bass in spots? It was thick as hell, not really muddy, just T-H-I-C-K - not in a bad way. What kind of bass are you using? How did you mix it into this frothy fullness? nice job! cheers, -Tom

I really liked it too. Very organic feel, very alive. And yeah, killer bass. I'd never heard of Trilian, but I googled it up. Great sound and well played.

Wow, thanks a lot for the comments guys! I love instrumentals and it seems as if it is impossible to find any getting airplay any more. I'm trying to stick to my guns - I constantly get comments like "How come there aren't any vocals" or "this would sound good if you added vocals". I'm gonna go out on a limb and say there was something going on in the bass besides just acoustic bass. Did you double it with a synth bass in spots? It was thick as hell, not really muddy, just T-H-I-C-K - not in a bad way. This is just the Trilian Acoustic bass - nothing else - honest ;-) I don't work for, or get paid by Spectrasonics, but IMHO this acoustic bass is the best! https://www.spectrasonics.net/products/trilian.php I just mixed it with the drums (and you're right, it's "full") - then tried to keep the guitar parts out of the way ;-) Thanks again to everyone for taking the time to listen.

Love it, John! I heard a little Jeff Beck in one spot that caught my attention. That is a great bass. I'll have to check out their stuff. In the meantime, stick to your guns.

John, that is a USA Nashville Custom. It came with the middle pickup and the toggle switch. You can't see that. It's a beautiful guitar. The back has the "rib" contour as opposed to the flat back normal ones.

Beagle - thanks a lot for listening!
Warren - it looks nice! I got a new American Std Tele (which is mostly what I used on this song), and it has the 'belly contour' or whatever you want to call it ;-) Some of the purists hate this, but I've never had a Tele before this, so I don't know what it's like without it. I don't get into the Strat vs Tele debates - I like them both!

Yeah, that bass tone is killer. Overall mix sounds real good. But I actually liked the guitars best.... nice variety of tones, all played very well. And some cool lines happening. Good depth too, not always easy to achieve.

Hey - thanks for listening Steve, and for your comments. I'm using S-Gear amp sims now, and I really like the sound of them. S-Gear and my Telecaster & Strat, sound good ;-)

Nice guitar work in this - And as others have already said the bass sound is great - solid without overwhelming the track.
