Netflix of Music Lessons?

Ken Lewis is starting an online Music Lesson subscription service similar to Netflix. He's trying to raise funds on Kickstarter, even if you can't donate help spread the word so we can help make this happen!

It looks like a worthy cause. I'll take a closer look tomorrow. It is good to see something positive. I didn't know who Ken Lewis was but 7 Grammy nominations is fairly impressive.

    Thanks,

You do realize that there are dozens of music lessons online already? Perhaps not all are generic i.e. representing dozens of different instruments etc., but if you do a search for piano lessons online or guitar lessons online, or music theory online, you are going to be overwhelmed. I would be more impressed if the founder/venture capital collector had a music education background than that he had Grammy nominations. Same reason I do not buy breakfast cereal based on the fact that it is endorsed by Olympic athletes.

Yes, don't want to pour cold water on it, but it seems like he's a bit late to the party really. Just searching for 'piano tuition' on YouTube yields 29,000 results.

Interesting. One-on-one music lessons never worked for me, not sure why. This looks like it's more "on your own time" and less rigid. Plus I feel kind of weird taking music lessons at my age. I'll look into it, thanks.

I think it would be a good idea, but I don't like the video player he uses. I played the "Royals" by Lourde video included on that page, and it was no good for me, because every time I clicked Pause, it showed a Cover shot, instead of freezing the video.

This is no good because I need to use Pause a lot when learning, so I can read the notes on the screen at my own dyslexic pace, and take screen shots if I need to. But if his video player inside the members area does allow you to freeze the video and see the spot you've frozen, then I would definitely be interested.

I'd probably be using the kids section though! All my piano books are kids books.

    Hi,

I'll probably use the online stuff. But not sure I want a teacher at all ... I would rather fumble my way into it and learn my own music theory so i can do my own thing.

    Besides, asking is a joke!

Music is not about notes and chords! My poem is not about the computer or monitor or letters! It's about how I was able to translate it from my insides!
