[CWBRN-31370] - Buggy export - Upgrade LAME

Ok, i honestly don't even know how to explain this one. I exported the song. Its MP3, 44100. Variable bit encoding.

The song in reality is only about 5 minutes long. However when i open it up in windows media player it says 8. Its from my master template and there's only one track in whole project. Before you say it.. yes i only selected what i wanted to export. The curser does not extend out at all i checked all this. Ive tried selecting the track and iv selected the clip itself for export attempts.

Heres the thing. The song says its 8 mins.. however in really only plays for the original 5 mins but there is absolutely NO silence anywhere in the song. Its as if the timing on media player was off. It seems like its counting faster than real seconds or something. It plays the exact same length as previous versions iv exported from the mix project and other versions of the master prior to today.
I am baffled at what this could be. I even tried a whole new project and imported it then exported and same thing.

I do not know if this is my computer or Sonar. When i put it on my phone to listen it shows that its 8 minutes long, and the whole song does play through untill the very end at 5:06.. however then it does go to the next song like it should. If i try fast forwarding or skipping to beyond that point in the 6 mins,7 mins range etc.. it like rubber bands back to a random place in the song to resume playing. I know this sounds confusing i really do not know how to explain this.

Perhaps get a second opinion ? Download the free Audacity and see what it says ?

This is a known bug in the version of LAME used by SONAR's integrated mp3 encoder when VBR is enabled.

Appreciate it Scook. I turned off the VBR and the file is perfectly fine now. Thank you for the quik replies. You too Tomix. I should have tried that option first anyways.

VBR can make a better sounding file at lower data rates, but it also causes some encoders and decoders to not play nicely.  If you're using VBR to try and get the best quality you can, the difference between VBR and CBR becomes pretty insignificant at data rates 256kbps and higher.

Is there a later version of LAME sonar should be using? If so maybe Platinum is using it. If not it should be..

Whew, I can't believe you knew the answer to this one. Awesome and thank you! I get clients that send me songs to preview that have 10 minutes or more in the file yet the song is only 4 minutes long. I always wondered what caused this!

Since most of us have broadband, they should just do away with that variable option. I never used it other than when I was on a 56k modem...but even then, I stuck with CBR. You sure are an assett scook! :)

I don't know which version Sonar uses (I think it's old).

I just added the latest LAME and it was version 3.99.5.

As this is buggy behaviour and the fix is quite simple it may appear, I'm moving this to problem reports forum. I don't regard this as an enhancement request.

Special request - Woody are you able to log this issue in the problem reporter and paste CWBRN number please?

Thanks..
