New "Brainchild" release

Can't see much in the latest "Brainchild" update to excite me.

All seems acoustic oriented to me. Can anyone tell me what exactly in this release is suitable for EDM (yes, that's a rhetorical question!). Why does EDM or Pop-music seem to be an afterthought on Cakewalks part? What type of music producer does Cakewalk deem it's main demographic? Can someone tell me if Cakewalk takes EDM producers seriously, because really going by the included plugins and tools they do not appear to be fond of EDM. Is Cakewalk ever gonna give us a treat and show some respect, or will they ever show signs that they intend to look-after the EDM producer demographic, or is Sonar primarily a Rock, Blues, Jazz, R&B Blah Blah acoustic DAW? Are we ever gonna see some pandering to the EDM producers, Cakewalk?? I'm sick to death of EDM producers being treated by DAW-makers as second-class citizens or merely an afterthought!! We can buy our own sh_t you reckon!??? What's it gonna take, Cakewalk???????? A couple of pertinent plugins can rectify this; hello?? What's with the neglect?? What do we EDM producers have to look forward to in Sonar? Tell me!

Let me say, just because the Sonar bakers and many users are Acoustic nuts, does that mean Cakewalk ignores the genre and associated EDM plugins and tools, is this your stance Cakewalk, i need to know? Because i'm getting damn tired of waiting for something that might say "Hey, we here at Cakewalk respect and acknowledge you EDM guys (even if you don't really), so a top-tier Drum-Machine and a a brand-new analog-modeled Synth and an updated version II of Pentagon and PSYN!

I'm pretty sure CW's demographic is "people who want to make music".

Yeah, ok, i hear ya Bapu, fair enough! It's just that my glimmer of hope is fading that Cakewalk takes us EDM nuts seriously.

We get it. You want a million loopty loops at hypersonic fidelity so moles can appreciate your superior audiofile sensabilities and anyone who plays an instrument are ignorant dinosaurs who should be left to sink into the swamps that will be the future oilfields of the looper community to extract and press into five gazillion bit discs at a whim.

Sonar is a well rounded DAW and yes... many of us play guitar or other wood and steel based instruments that require physical movement.

If you want something that caters almost exclusively to EDM production there are other options such as Ableton, FL Studio and now Bitwig.

Sonar could and should improve on a few things to take advantage of the EDM market HOWEVER they already have extensive features for that type of work AND they need to make sure us creaky old farts, who make up a large portion of their user base, remain happy.

And I said it the first time I saw you freaking out about this stuff... GO BUY PROPER THIRD PARTY SAMPLES if that is what you want! Cakewalk is not in the business of sample creation. They are a DAW manufacturer and I for one would prefer they continue focusing on THAT.

kthxbye

Apparently "Music Creator 7" is the successor.

Or then again there's the all-new "Tracktion 6" ($60) you might be interested in - just released. It has Melodyne Essential with ARA Integration as standard, it has the worlds best Time Stretch Algorithm (Z-Plane's "Elastique Pro"), it also has a nice suite of built-in plugins, plus comp-swiping for editing waveforms, and a true single-screen streamlined interface, and also an all-new Step Sequencer blah blah...  And a big-name producer is also quoted as saying "A mix in Tracktion sounds better than in Logic (there's something beautiful going on with the summing as there's more headroom in the mix bus)."

This is what happens when DAW-makers peeve me off, i start looking at the possibility of alternatives...

Considering the majority of the promo and tutorial material released is intro'd by electronic type music and the subject material is a gain mostly dancy type stuff I highly doubt they have an aversion to the genre. If anything on this side of the spectrum, as I was still learning, I wondered whether they cared about live musicians like me due to that stuff.

Now that I use it regularly I realize that it is extremely powerful for what I do AND now that I am literally in the process of studying up on all the samplers and synths included in the program that the electronic/sampling possibilities are endless as well.

Seriously I cannot even imagine being stuck trying to create synth/loopbased music in Sonar with all the things included.

Sounds like someone is blaming their "instrument".

Patience, young Jedi.

Two of my contributions for next month are EDaMp, a guitar amp designed for EDM guitar players (all three of them, LOL), and a percussion loop library with three folders:  Electro, Tambourine, and Electronic Percussion. I guarantee you have not heard anything like the Electro one.

As to today, did you check out Brian's loops and the bass synth patches in the Dim Pro expansion pack? Not exactly acoustic... Or the Scratcher in the folder of DJ effects? The Hardcore Drums and Drum Loop Mangler FX chains are pretty industrial but are suitable for EDM. And of course, the Resonator and Tightener folders have FX Chains that can help tremendously with EDM mixes.

All of this is new since Platinum. You really should check them out...even some of the Environments chains are good to layer in the context of chill sets.

The first 3 books in "The Musician's Guide to Home Recording" series are available from Hal Leonard and http://www.reverb.com. Listen to my music on http://www.YouTube.com/thecraiganderton, and visit http://www.craiganderton.com. Thanks!

To OP:
As stated, their are tons of loops (thousands) but to for a specific type one may find they need some 3rd party stuff.
No way CW could cater to one or the other and I don't think they do.

Many (or most) of us have 3rd party plugs. I have had kontakt for ages for instance, and I have plenty of Kontakt add ons that I paid for also. Plus Ozone 5, Sound Forge 11, Reverberationx64, etc, the list goes on and on.

So you need to add to your library for your own specific needs, that's the answer to Drone7's "dilemma"

Or the other software's like mentioned above that "do" advertise and cater to loops, etc.

I think Drone has a right to make his point.  A million loops doesn't make a DAW "EDM friendly".  Speaking as someone who producing across several genres, I find SONAR to be least friendly for dance/pattern-based music.  Some of the new PRV tools are helping, though.

As someone else mentioned, whenever ANYONE has a desired option or would like to see the bakers drive the product into a certain direction, we see it here.  How is this any different.

I, for one, mostly agree that there are many tools that could be added to the SONAR arsenal to facilitate production in EDM.

My $.02,
JG

I'll say for the record that I'm fond of Sonar, but there are many types of music, so yeah, we need the tools, but I've investigated Kontakt etc, and no-go, the quality of their sampling is sup-par IMO. I prefer something like Nexus 2 at... refx.de, this is usable for my genre. I know that music is more than just EDM, but I just wish Cakewalk would take their mind of 'loops' and guitars, and be more thoughtful about what it actually is that we can make use of.
