[FIXED - CWBRN-31796] Sonar hangs when insert BOZ plugs

Hi

There were problems reported with BOZ plugs (Dog & Benedeth plugs) lately - as documented here

Well, now I have run into the same issues, but after BOZ-reinstall and VST scan, it again works ... almost always ...

What really puzzles me is that in this particular test project it hangs immediately upon inserting any BOZ plug. Could anyone download and see if you can reproduce ... it's only 53 KB and takes about a minute to try ...

Thanks.

    Hi,

I downloaded the project and loaded it up, but I couldn't get it to crash my system. Is it the ProChannel plugin or the VST2/VST3 plugin that is causing the crash?

Sorry, should have said that here as well ... it's the ProChannel. VST3 works fine ...

Hi Robert I just downloaded and opened your project in SONAR Platinum I added the +10db and the EQ PC modules saved and exited then reopened the project without problem.  There is no audio content in the project is it crashing without content your end?

Thanks for trying ... just downloaded my upload and tried again to be sure, but that project crashes even without content. I just open the project, insert DOG into ProChannel and it hangs ...

There was a comment in another thread about windows start up items causing troubles with BOZ plugs. will look into this later when I find the time ...

Did some more testing: BOZ 10dB EQ and compressor seem ok (no problems encontered) but DOG keeps crashing ... this time it's a full crash with a dump file that I could upload to Cakewalk ...

On my system it's definitely reproducible that BOZ DOG has a problem with MONO tracks ... it either crashes immediately when inserted into ProChannel of mono tracks, or when inserted into the next track afterwards (irrespective if it is a mono or stereo track) ...

As this has been given a CWBRN number and the OP has requested it I will move this to Problem report forum.

Note nobody else at least on this thread has validated the issue yet. At present looks more like a troubleshooting thread... so far (people generating CWBRN numbers aren't really the criteria to move into problem reports to be honest, validated bugs are (validated = bug validated by another user))... anyways we are where we are (two troubleshooting threads in two different forums)

... Or maybe I asked for this to be moved and forgot - in which case sorry I was wrong.

On with the troubleshooting then I guess.

Have you run windows update recently? Anything in the windows event viewer?

I've done some testing with MIDI and audio tracks, mono and stereo. No dice. With what I've tested and what others have written it's all seems to be pointing towards a system specific issue... at least right now.

You might also try uninstalling and reinstalling. Are you running it with any other plugins?

I've now tried your project as well.... Works OK.
Are you doing a VST reset? Not just a rescan.
You might want to update the firmware and drivers of your interface as well (and see my previous posts).
    Cheers...

No actually, I asked for it to be moved ... and the CWBRN is assigned automatically when you allow Sonar to submit the dump file online, which I did ... because I think Cakewalk should take a look at it.

I think with this "problem" we are beyond troubleshooting - at least I have run out of ideas. I'm all up to date with versions, win 7 64 bit, drivers, firmware ... and I reinstalled BOZ 3 times already ...

BOZ plugs always worked OK as VST3, the +10dB Q and Comp now also work after the reinstalls in the ProChannel, nevertheless ... I can repeatedly reproduce the DOG crash in a new project on one of my 2 DAW systems. So it's not something that happens on every system (otherwise we would have many more complaints) but it happens ... and there were quite a few posts about DOG's instability when ProChannel DOG was released ... I'm afraid those users have meanwhile just given up on it (which I don't want to because I find it incredibly useful)

Nothing in the event viewer, only that Sonar hangs ... no other plugs involved apart from standard ProChannel ...
VST reset and scanned several times ...

I have even wondered if BOZ is doing something online in the background like checking authorization (which it never did, is the license hardcoded to my Sonar version ... or am I missing something here???) ... with the crappy www connection I got this could pose problems if it tries to access the web ...

Agreed but this isn't the cakewalk support forums here, it's a place to document verified problem reports regarding the use of Cakewalk products. Reproducible issues help the developers to fix bugs (this forum is more for Cakewalk developer/QA eyeballs rather than support). Also please check the forums handbook. Also when you logged this via cakewalk problem reporter you will have ticked a box stating cakewalk support won't contact you.

Unfortunately we are unable to validate this issue, so I strongly suggest contacting support:

There's no need to be patronizing. There will always be problems that only few are seeing. These problems are the hardest to track down and reproduce. It's not ok to simply negate the problem because general purpose advice of upgrading to the latest drivers didn't fix it ...

Anyway, other user(s) can reproduce it follow ... so it's not just me ...

I was not trying to be patronising. I was trying to be informative and helpful. I'm sorry you read it that way.

It's not ok to simply negate the problem because general purpose advice of upgrading to the latest drivers didn't fix it ...

    Quote please?

I gave out advice to see if it will resolve your issue, if it didn't please don't blame me. I have never said just because updating drivers didn't work the issue isn't a bug, you have simply made that up, that would obviously be a stupid thing to say. I've actually bothered to spend my own time trying to reproduce your issue as I've stated in this thread, you don't seem to have registered this.

I have never said that your issue is or isn't a bug. It's just yet to be validated with steps. I strongly suggest you reread my posts and the forums handbook, maybe then you will gain a different perspective.

As you know I am on that thread as well, I am keen for your situation to be resolved regardless of what the cause is. Until we can get reproducible steps (I hope somebody is able to post them in either thread) I am still suggesting you contact support. I don't see anything wrong with this advise either as this is how you normally resolve difficult scenarios like these.

The reason why we are where we are in this thread right now is because there are two threads, this one in the wrong forums, which in turn is leading this to a heated discussion/confusion which could have been avoided. The other thread seems to be doing perfectly well for the moment (where it is being troubleshooted).

Since I opened this thread, I now close it and rename to indicate it's fixed ...

BOZ provided me with an updated (beta?) version this morning which apparently fixed all reproducibe crashes I had. All problems with DOG seem fixed.

In the email he wrote "I'll pass this along to the other guys that were having issues and see if it fixes it for then as well." so pls contact him in case you read this and still have the problem at the email stated here http://forum.cakewalk.com/FindPost/3188851

I assume once he has confirmation that this fixes people issues, he'll make it an official update anyway  ...
