Mouse Left click drag for grouping tracks not working correctly

Mouse Left click drag for grouping tracks not working correctly

I can sometimes start the click-drag to highlight tracks, and sometimes it will highlight one track and sometimes it will highlight 4 or 5, but if I'm trying to group a dozen drum tracks, it always craps out before it finishes highlighting all of them.
 
anyone else see this problem?

    Left click drag?

    I don't know if this is a command i'm not familiar with as i don't use groups, but back in X3 (i beleive), the lasso tool was changed to right click drag...?
