7 pin (both ends) Tube condenser mic Cable?

Trying to get a replacement cable. I have a Stellar CM-5, which believe it or not blew away Shure KSM32 and was right on par with Mojave m200.

I have emailed stellar mics-waiting on an answer, but last time I spoke to him he was out of stock.

Anyway, really need a cable-I see many around the web, but even though they look the same are they all wired the same?
I saw rode, XML and shure 7 pin mic cables

Thanks

Hi, Strat. What's going on with the cable you have? Maybe you could repair it. Are you able to pull back the connector housing and see what's connected to what?

Semi related... I got a brand new "pro" quality patch cable recently that shorted out within a few months. I pulled back the housing and the bare copper strands were all mashed up and jamming onto the totally WRONG parts of the connector. Fruuuug! I was going to just snip back the cable, restrip the wires and solder it again but I was actually able to slide a a couple little strips of electrical tape in there to stop it from shorting out.

Anyway... if the cable run, or at least a section of it is still good (which can be tested if you have a meter) you could just write down what wire connects to what pin and resolder the bugger. I used to have to do this with a proprietry speaker cable for my old bass cabinet every time it got hosed.

Of course you'll want to be super careful because a mistake may destroy the mic.

And yes... there is likely a special wiring config that if not used could send juice somewhere it should not go and end in tears.

    Hey Beepster

I should have been clearer-I am pretty insane about having backups. I wanted to buy one "in case"

Your last sentence confirmed pretty much what I thought also, that's why I posted here instead of just buying one.

I will wait now and hopefully hear back from Stellar. You know, it's a killer tube vocal mic-only $415 with the tube condenser power supply box and 30 ft cable.
But, it's reasons like this that sometimes make it pay to go with a known company.

    Support!

Thanks B, just what I needed

I wouldn't take a chance with a substitution unless a replacement becomes unavailable. There may be  a standard out there, but that doesn't mean that your mic follows it. In addition to the standard condenser mic connections, there could be wires that handle pattern switching and voltages for the tube, if it's in the mic body.

If you can't get a proper replacement, get one that has a compatible pin configuration and have a tech make sure that both cables really do have identical connections. You might be able to do it yourself with a multi meter or continuity checker.

    Regards, John
