Smart Tool not working in Platinum

I've been seeing 'odd behavior' posts from folks bringing older projects into Sonar Platinum.  Here's another one.
 
I believe this project was started in X2, all wav files.  I opened and saved it in SPlat and then brought in a midi file to drive Superior 2, opened up the PV and tried to do some editing.  The Smart Tool would not work for almost anything I tried!  It would lasso a selection and then not.  I could not get the ST to change tools.  I ended up manually changing tools via the HUD and after much frustration manged to get what little editing I needed finished and even then, the tools would not work most of the time.  Am I missing something here?
 
I also noticed the velocity lane would show the note velocities and then they would be gone.  Very erratic and very frustrating!  If someone has figured out what's going on with this I would certainly appreciate a direct to those posts.  Any other help would also be appreciated.

That's pretty weird. It happens reliably in that project and in no other? Have you restarted SONAR or rebooted since you first saw this?

Yep!  Restarted, rebooted, no change.  I haven't tried this same scenario in another project yet but I will.  I have a number of older projects started in earlier versions of Sonar that I'm beginning to work on so I'll report back as I move through them.  Most are audio only though, no midi.  I'm also going to try opening up a new blank SPlat project and bring in the wavs and midi from the earlier project to see if that makes any difference.
 
I have been seeing some weirdness since I updated to Braintree.  Has anyone tried rolling back that patch?
