Waves favorable report

I recently purchased the JJP Vocals and the Vocal Rider, along with the Manny Marroquin Reverb.  They were on sale. I also updated my copy of Platinum to the latest version.

I am happy to report that all of the Waves plugs are now VST3 and work well with my Sonar X3.

The JJP Vocals and the Vocal Rider really helped me get a great sound on my voice, which I record with an sm57.  I now have gone to a higher level with my voice.  Others have indicated the Vocal Rider is not so great, but for me it is a very nice effect. Could be my voice responds well to it compared to others. But all of a sudden my voice sounds more present, and the tone is better, and overall just more kewl.

I can say the MM reverb is one of my go-to reverbs from now on. Most other reverbs sound too metallic to me.

Waves gives good support.  I had an installation problem with the Platinum. Everything worked fine except the L2 Mono, which is an effect I use on almost every project.

I ended up calling Waves support and I have to say they took care of me.  After a few suggested fixes by email correspondence  that did not work, they had me install their remote software so they could control my machine.  The guy had me call him on the phone and he fixed everything quickly, and then the exe of the remote software disappeared. He seemed very focused on getting the problem solved.

Turns out I had the Waveshell VST file in too many directories.

I wrote this dialog for the people like me who are not professional engineers but want a professional sound product. Waves products cost plenty, but I have come to believe they are worth the money. Also, they tend to be (with exceptions) simple to dial in. I guess I am saying that for me the plugs have the value of foregoing a new guitar and spending the money on the intangible.

BTW, since L2 mono didn't work for about a day, I started using the FabFilter limiter. I have to say it is really top flight also, in the same class as the Waves L2 as far as my ears can tell, and just as intuitive to use.

So today I am a happy camper!

I use heaps of Waves plugs, never really had any problems, one time after installing some new plugins, the mono version of C4 wouldn't work, Sonar said it was missing or something, couldn't work it out, so Emailed Waves support, they got back to me super fast and had it sorted in no time, that was the only time I have needed to use Waves support, and I must say it was excellent, 10/10. I pretty well only use Waves plugins now, and iZotope stuff (Ozone 5 and 6 Advanced, Alloy2, Nectar 2), Melodyne Editor, some Toneboosters stuff, DDMF's IIEQPRO and IK's Master EQ 432, which is the only one of the T Racks collection I still use. I had the FF Total bundle and Melda's Total bundle, but gave them away to a friend. I just find the Waves stuff so easy to use and get the sound/effect I am after without to much fuss, and they sound so sweet. The only Signature series I have are the CLA Sig and Eddie Kramer Sig series, love 'em, so easy, just throw them on and instant gratification, a few tweaks, sometimes end up replacing them with individual plugs, but for a quick instant fix, better more polished sound without too much effort so you can get on with it, excellent, love 'em.

Interesting you mention the L2 mono didn't work.  I'm having that exact problem right now.  I just bought the Linear Phase EQ's and after installing those, the L2 MONO stopped working but the L2 stereo still does!  The research I've done seems to indicate it's not the easiest fix but...  Cool post.

Try removing the location for Waves plugins, by default it is C:\Program Files\Common Files\VST3 or something like that, remove that from the VST scan options VST locations in Sonar, apply (whatever), then add it back to the VST scan options VST locations in Sonar and let it do it's scan, then check it out again

It's worth being on Waves' mailing list. Their weekend deals on a few plugins can sometimes be a very significant saving over the regular price. And you still get their standard discount on multiple purchases.

    Sonar Platinum 64bit, Windows 8.1 Pro 64bit, I7 3770K Ivybridge, 16GB Ram, Gigabyte Z77-D3H m/board,
