Waves Tracks Live

This doesn't look very competitive with SONAR but those of us who use Pro Tools Native and aren't seeing any benefit to buying Pro Tools 12, it has a certain appeal for recording live instruments. Anyone looking hard at it?

Definitly some to test , specially for those that use big waves bundles since the plugin support is coming (so at least waveshell will be supported) and also the HW option will make a near ZERO latency recording live solution .....

I downloaded it (there's a free version) and it's basically a program that will turn your computer and I/O interface into a multitrack tape deck.  That's about it.  You have to have a soundcard with a mixer to provide cue mixes for your musicians.  There's no auxes or busses to speak of and no way to modify the I/O other than drag a track to another position.  IOW, the first track in the column is assigned to Input 1 of your soundcard.  If you drag that track to the fourth position then it gets it's input from Input 4.

No way to overdub other than create a new track and record into it.  No way to insert FX plugins as far as I can see.

The GUI is fairly Spartan but that's kind of where my head is at nowadays so that's a plus for me.  The Mixer view will not float so that's a deal breaker but if you have a lap top and want to record live bands, it would be just fine.

So it's not a full blown DAW by any stretch of the imagination.  But, it could be some day.

Indeed Dave,

It appears to be built on Ardour 3....so I'm sure it will get further support...
but it's mainly just for recording a LIVE show/recording/performance...

You know the story...

People beg for something simple, then someday a manufacturer delivers, the product gains momentum, the user base grows, next they demand MIDI, Notation, VST3, etc.

Rince and repeat...

I just downloaded it today and really liked it. After the initial run though it just crashes for me every time I try to create a new session. It really is pretty cool though. It is kind of like Presonus' Capture. It just makes it really simple to record a live show... just start it up and hit record. It senses your all inputs and creates tracks for them (you can turn off the ones you don't need..) Capture only works with Presonus boards... this works with essentially everything (well... except my system... but hopefully that will get resolved...) One thing I really like about this (and Capture...) is the ability to lock the keyboard when recording so that you or someone else can't inadvertently stop the recording. I wish this was a feature in Sonar or PT. Anyway, i hope they release a new version soon that works with my Focusrite. I am beginning to think that the Saffire Pro40 drivers may be a little funky. It works pretty well with Sonar but not nearly as efficiently as it does with PT (though it is REALLY finicky and crashy about sample rate changes and updates when switching between projects in PT)
