Do any of you use 3rd party CD burning software ?

I was wondering if there are any clear benefits to doing such. The Windows media player version seems OK, but is there a better one out there? Something that you can adjust titles, insert TOC type messages, built in leveling control, etc.  What is everyone using?

    Orange,

A couple free burners to check out.

For data discs, look at BurnAware free:

    http://www.burnaware.com/

Extremely reliably on my system, and very few discs turned into coffee cup place mats.

Less luck with BurnAware on audio CD's. Data burning is as solid as it gets, but audio cd is less reliable.

Good free audio (and data) burner is CDBurnerXP. Does not have complex fades and crossfades, but burns a solid audio CD that plays in my rust bucket Kia.

    https://cdburnerxp.se/en/home

    Couple of so many options.

I'm almost sure most of us use a third party burning software. I use mostly Nero.

SONAR PE 8.5.3, Asus P5B, 2,4 Ghz Dual Core, 4 Gb RAM, GF 7300, EMU 1820, Bluetube Pre  -  Kontakt4, Ozone, Addictive Drums, PSP Mixpack2, Melda Creative Pack, Melodyne Plugin etc.

I use Samplitude Pro X.  It's very powerful and can be used as a full blown mastering system and CD burner.  I premaster in Samplitude and then send it to my mastering guy who imports it into Sequoia.

CD architect looks intriguing to me. I think I may have to research that a little. Price is attractive too.
Samplitude prox looks like a little bit more than what I need, but it's always good to have options. Thanks to all.

CD Architect has worked flawlessly for me for the past 12 (? when did it come out?) years, but I want to try doing it all in Sonar, at some point. My Sound Forge 8 is in need of an update, but I haven't quite got round to it yet. It is also on my old P4 XP machine and I want to get rid of that, but haven't moved SF nor CD Arch to either of my newer PC's.

I recall upgrading from 8 to 10 and honestly there was not much difference. Even the latest version is still not 64-bit. Outside of light versions of Izotope plugs, the core effects are exactly the same.  I'm holding out for a truly groundbreaking upgrade before even considering pulling the trigger.

Actually, Sound Forge Pro 11 is now 32 tracks at 64 bit, and goes up to 192khz. For me to upgrade it is $199usd, from SF8. That must have come down, because I recall thinking I didn't want to spend $250 on it, when it was released.
The Spectral Layers intrigues me, but several folks have said that iZotope's Rx4 is better. I know that a program like either, would be very handy. Being able to "clean up audio", since I don't have a isolated room, at the moment, would save me from discarding good takes, while the furnace kicks in, or the dogs bark!LOL

As for CD burning I use CD Architect 5.2 which has been the latest version for quite some years now.

I use Sound forge Pro 11 and it is still 32 bit. It does internal audio processing at 64 bit float, like Sonar does which is not the same as being a 64 bit program in that it still can't address extra ram like true 64 bit programs can. It got me too when it was first released. It can record 32 tracks simultaneously but the total tracks is unlimited.

Vegas is 64 bit and most of the DX plugins that come with Vegas are 64 bit DX and work nicely in Sonar especially my favourite being Wave Hammer

I use Nero, BurningRom application.  Its the only one I've found that will burn to multiple discs at the same time.  I have a bank of 5 USB connected CD/DVD burners I use for CD production (burn at "8X" for compatibility with older audio CD players).  Nero burns to the Redbook standard.

I tried CD Architect and couldn't see any way to burn to more than one drive at a time.

Thanks for clearing that up, Mike. Sony is trying to make it sound better than it works!

Jack. That is a good idea/method. Thanks for sharing it. I used to have a pair of MicroBoards QD2's and would get another one, but want to see what's up in that realm nowadays.

Michael, the drives I have are PATA (IDE) interface drives, TSST CDDVDW SH-S222L drives.  I dont' think they make them any more.  I have them as they will burn audio CD-R's at 8X speed.  Anything above that can be iffy or not play at all on old audio CD players.  As my clients sell their CD's at concerts and who knows what the buyers will use the 8X is safe.  Higher burned speeds on old players can either not play or will skip.

The drives are each in a USB enclosure.  I couldn't find a multiple drive enclosure that will work with the PATA interface drives.

I only use JVC/Taiyo Yuden ink jet printable CD-R's.  I have a Primera Bravo SE disc printer (will hold 20 CD's at a time).  The only negative on the printer is the high cost of the ink and the amount of ink used per disc on ones with a lot of color or pictures.

I do a lot of disc production.  In the past two weeks I've done two 50 CD orders, a 32 CD order, and two 25 CD orders.

When I was operating my studio "for hire", the bands all wanted copies and then more, so the QD2's covered that nicely, though not as fast as your set up! I didn't do any printing on the discs, though I looked into that. Sounds like a nice bit of business.
I always did the first 2 discs at 4X (IDE)in the PC with CD Architect 5.2, then let the QD2's do the heavy lifting after that! LOL  They were amazingly reliable. I don't recall more than a couple rejects in 5-6 years of hundreds of copies. I imagine that service is very good for your studio getting more work.
