External Editor in Platinum

In X3e I was using Adobe Audition as an integrated external editor.  I followed the registry editing procedure to add it to Platinum, but it did not appear to work - Audition does not show up in the utilities toolbar.

Anyone using an external editor with Platinum?

    Yes, I have added several programs to the Utilities menu using these instructions https://www.cakewalk.com/...e-to-SONARs-Tools-menu

    Don't have Audition to test but it should work like any other program which takes a file name as a command line argument. Can you describe how it fails?

    I'm using Sound Forge 11, Vegas 12, iZotope RX Adv, Adobe Audition CS 5.5 and they all work fine. I'm still working on getting Melodyne Studio working reliably.

    I've used exactly the same registry script for each program just changing the specific file data as required.

    I have/had Sound Forge 10 installed for X3. Now installed Platinum and its there. Meaning did nothing special, and its just there.
    eg:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Cakewalk Music Software\Tools Menu\SoundForge10
    Tools Menu is common to all Sonar versions I can tell.
    Unless 32 vs 64 Sonars?

    Yes, there is one registry entry for the Utilities menu shared by all 64bit versions of SONAR and another one for all 32bit versions of SONAR.

    Mine works.  You likely dotted your T and crossed your I.  The registry is a very unfriendly place.

    My Utilities menu carried forward from X3e to Platinum (is it possible you were running 64-bit X3e and 32-bit Platinum is installed?), but here are the entries for my Adobe Audition (64-bit Platinum):

    May need to add the "Audition" key if missing...

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Cakewalk Music Software\Tools Menu\Audition

    Inside that, the entries are:

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Cakewalk Music Software\Tools Menu\Audition]
    "ExePath"="C:\\Program Files (x86)\\Adobe\\Adobe Audition CS5.5\\Adobe Audition.exe"
    "MenuText"="&Audition"
    "StatusBarText"="Run Audition"
    "Type"="WaveEditor"

    Be sure the ExePath above points to YOUR Audition file. You can actually copy the bold-faced text above into NotePad, save it, then rename it with a ".reg" extension. Double clicking that file will then ask if you want to enter that key to your registry. Again, verify the ExePath prior.

    Edit: If using the NotePad method, keep the \\ for directory structure... if adding the registry values manually, it only uses a single \

    Edit 2: SONAR will need to be exited and restarted for the entry to show up in the Utilities menu.

    I use Goldwave (Audio Editor) but I don't have a link in Sonar for it.  I've never found a need to have it linked directly from Sonar.

    Thanks everybody.   its clear there's no general problem.  I'll check the registry again.  I went from 32-bit X3 to 64-bit Platinum, so the old entries did not carry over and I had to re do them.  Probably a typo I didn't see!

    Jack you would use it to open a audio track in Gold Wave and use it's tools to edit the track. Handy for certain tasks where your wave editor has faster and better tools than Sonar.

    I had to make sure Audition was set to "run as administrator" when SONAR is set to "run as administrator".
