Altered Apology

I have to force this out of me because I Am of the opinion that Jazz is an art form and.......I LIKE IT!

I apologize to the forum for forcing a Fred pertaining to the music of Jazz that is of little use mostly because everyone gets tired of listening to it after 3 minutes. Everyone also gets tired of playing it after 3 minutes so an apology is in order

I admit if I won a million dollars and was playing jazz for a living I could only make it as long as the money held out but I think the theory behind jazz is good to know!?  95% of the music I play is not jazz and I Am STILL POOR!

Apology accepted... as long as you stop talking about it in 3 minutes.

While I cannot happen to be able to listen to 'traditional' jazz for more than 2-3 seconds, I DO enjoy some of the Weather Report and Brecker Brothers tunes - so whatever they are, I like em.

To each his/her own goes the concept, none the less, so 'rock' on, as it were.  :)

When I was driving a cab in NYC NPR did a "history of jazz special." It was the first show and they were playing the early stuff when I picked up a fare.  She started going on about jazz and must have figured I was some kind of an aficionado.  Some people like to think a conversation of what they like is how cabbies want to spend their 12 hours in a cab.  Finally she asked me if I liked jazz.  I said I liked the old stuff, it reminded me of Popeye cartoons.  That shut her up.

Billy, me lovely lad... although I have not yet worked through the exercises you have generously provided (currently dealing with medical issues and refining some notes on more production oriented studies) I do intend to spend some time assimilating the BB method as presented into my repertoire. I am Borg... in that respect. But don't worry, I am a friendly Borg and no surgically implanted electronics are forthcoming (unless you are into that sort of thing but if I were you I would question the sterile conditions of my operating room).

Artistically (and in general) I keep two sets of books in my little noodle. One is for pure mimicing of traditionally accepted styles and procedures and the second is for the dark, twisted and bizarre churnings of my inner weirdo.

The former allows me to fit in and do what is asked of me. The latter just happens naturally but tends to be a little scary. There is a wet/dry control I use to dial in the appropriate levels of normal and cray cray depending on the situation.

When kindly and knowledgeable fellows such as yourself do what you did in that thread it helps massively with this little arrangement amongst my multiple musical personalities. It is always interesting to take a peek into the inner workings of seasoned musicians and that seems to be exactly what you have provided.

So to quote the wise and learned dubdisciple... apology not accepted.

I can still remember when I first used this kind of thing on a gig. Not jazz chording but rock soloing. Learning this stuff opened my ears to sounds I'd never heard or thought of before. I love to use 2 note licks when I build a ride. And it's FUN! The young guys that don't listen and study the craft of sound and styles will one day look back and think to themselves"dumbass".
