Registration shamozzle. "Deleted by mudgel" (Fixed but don't know what Cakewalk did)
I was one of the chosen to get the offer to purchase and install Platinum before its official release. This I did on January 16th. I used the monthly option as I was a bit short at the time. In February I came into a bit of money so cancelled my subscription with Cleverbridge (not so clever really) and purchased the full version of Platinum through the Cakewalk on line store. Before embarking on any of this I confirmed the correct procedure by contacting Cakewalk Customer Support by email. There was several days wait before a reply only to be misunderstood and then send several more emails back and forth, explaining that I was not expecting to buy the full version at the difference between what I had paid monthly, and the full $149 update special price. I even had sent an email to Willy I think it was explaining all this and was told its all taken care of. All the while my Sonar about screen has been saying I was in a monthly plan until 03/31/2015. Today I open Sonar to do an important project and see a toast notification that I'm in demo mode. My about screen says my membership expired on 03/16/2015. No worries think I, I'll just do an offline activation and was allowed to go through the whole procedure even getting an activation file returned to me. The result: I'm still in demo mode. Hang on I think I need to log out of CCC and log back in that's the go. yay now none of the many gigabytes of data I've installed through this laughable peace of software is no longer recognised and I'm still in DEMO MODE. When I think of the time I've spent helping others through the beginning of this release and doing everything right by contacting Cakewalk before anything else. I am about to contact someone from Cakewalk to follow up on this but decided I would make it public here first. I'm very angry to say the least.

I didn't keep the tracking number for the issue because I was assured all was OK. Its a shame I didn't turn Sonar on yesterday as it would have given me a day extra to sort it out. As it is now I've got to spend the afternoon contacting everyone and tell them the session is off because Sonar is in Demo Mode and I cant save any work until its resolved. I could use Sonar X3 but I'm concerned about opening an existing project in a previous version especially when I have Mix Recall and other existing Sonar features that may or may not get messed about by working in X3. AND then doing all that I front of paying clients.

Just a thought Mike. Have you tried uninstalling and removing the registry entries then re-installing? I wonder if the serial numbers etc are different for the full paid up version i.e. the CW system thinks it's the original (now expired) install when in reality it is completely different.

I was told that the serial number wouldn't change and it was all taken care of.
Now everything else including all the material whether it's plugins, even Dim Pro and Rapture are showing as not installed according to the CCC. Sonar Platinum has a green light next to it but nothing else. It's a real stuff up.
I've even tried to register it again but says that I already have this product registered. Why on earth does it return an activation file when I try to do an offline Activation if it doesn't accept I have a valid installation.
I'm reluctant to do anymore without cakewalk getting involved. Man I'm ticked off, and knowing that it takes days for Cakewalk to respond to emails and PMs, I'm concerned how much more this is going to cost me in lost work. I can't ring until tomorrow morning my time for phone support.

Man, I am sorry to read about this. I hope it gets worked out quickly. The communication and CCC need a bit of work still. Is Platinum still in demo mode? I manually installed everything, so my CCC has one green (Platinum only) and everything else is red, so it is not very "system aware," but I guess is all over the "expiration date." The CCC needs a grace period like any other financial billing, I guess. As far as X3, you can open projects but lose new features in older versions. Something to consider would be to open that project in X3 and immediately save it with a new name. You will then be able to track and do a good portion of editing even there. Pulling it back into Platinum I would do the same thing (first save with a new name). I have not used Platinum enough to know what presets can be saved in one project/assigned in another (best option), but you can also open the tracking project side-by-side with the template and manually move data (a bit messier).

I've cancelled tonight's session. I was too concerned about what might go wrong seeing as I had little to no time to sort out using X3. It's too important a project to take chances without the necessary prep time. Not to mention I sprout off all the time about Sonars virtues and I'm not too keen on having to explain that my super duper program has gone into demo mode and I haven't been able to fix the problem yet.
I'm working on a plan b right now in case it all takes longer than anticipated and we'll get back to it in 48 hrs.
I'd heard about this issue from several others on the forumand even recommended to them what to do. I hope they're not let down like I've been. I really thought I did everything necessary to avoid it.

Hi Mike, Your account should be fixed now - I apologize for the headache. Simply closing and re-opening SONAR should fix it for you. I'll put up an FAQ today to clarify all these issues. I must have missed it in your message - if SONAR was saying 2015 then that is a red flag.

Only just now read this post Willy after answering an email from support who suggested I follow steps that I had already mentioned in this thread. I gave then a link to this thread, perhaps but they didn't read it. Sonar About page had been reading current to 3/31/2015 even though the official expiry was 3/16/2015 on the monthly plan and then today/yesterday it corrects the date and says 3/16/2015 Expired As I replied to the support email. Sonar was still running and I opened the About page to take a screen grab for tech support and there it tells me I'm current to 6/28/2016, status is Owned. No interaction from me at all.. I have restarted Sonar to confirm everything stayed that way and all looks Ok at the moment except: The CCC still shows red lights for all the products I've installed except Sonar. Boy CCC needs some work. I'm for sure not going to install all that again just to show green lights when I've already done that once. Glad I can use Platinum again but not happy. This little problem inconvenienced a group of my clients who I was lucky enough to contact and cancel before they travelled the 2.5 hours to get here, cost me a full nights work (and some as yet undetermined compensation for having to cancel with little notice) and gave Sonar a big black eye?

This happened because you logged out of C3. The current version keeps a local log of what it installed, when you log out that cache is erased. We're going to move this to the registry in the next update so that won't happen anymore. Glad I can use Platinum again but not happy. I was hoping those extra 3 months I tacked on would would help ease the punch. Sorry again for the troubles.

Others with the same problem have been advised by Cakewalk to sign out of CCC and when you log back in the change in membership is picked up. Even though I did it before tech support told me, that is the first thing suggested to fix my problems in the email I recieved.
The way you've worded your reply makes it seem that it's somehow my fault because I signed out of CCC, when I only did what tech support suggests and has been suggested on this forum by Cakewalk staffers.
Thanks for the 3 extra months of membership you tacked on, I know that personally it's not in your power to do any more and I appreciate that you've done it..For what Sonar failed to deliver though I pay the price quite literally and for what I'm unable to deliver I pay the price too. I'm in the position now of having to compensate a group of 5 people in some way for wasting a night where accomodation was booked, travel plans made and cancelled at the last minute. I hope that by the time morning rolls around that I can reschedule everything to everyone's satisfaction.
When Sonar cops a black eye I cop one too. I'm sure I'll survive but when clients connect results with certain DAWs that you're not using there's a lot of re education to do and nothing talks like results. Today I couldn't deliver the results.

This sounds like a nightmare situation. I'm honestly trying not to feel uneasy about Sonar's new activation method but this kind of thing is exactly what was worrying many people when Sonar switched to a "phone home" deal. I realize that this is quite a specific situation but it is still gnawing at me. What if I don't use my laptop for a while and then go on location to record?

Hi Mike, I simply meant to offer an explanation about C3's behavior with the status lights nothing more, nothing less. No other intentions. I think its fairly obvious there are areas we can improve upon C3. My response had zero to do with anything other than the issue with the status lights you are experiencing. I apologize if that came off the wrong way. Sanderxpander What if I don't use my laptop for a while and then go on location to record?
I think we mentioned this somewhere else as well, but if you're in a situation where you will be without internet or you prefer to keep your DAW offline, the annual route is the best option. SONAR doesn't need to phone home after the first activation (online or offline) because it will know that you own a perpetual, unlocked license and you can install updates at your pace when you know you can be authorize. I'd like to think our solution is even more flexible for location recording - would sure suck to lose that ilok when you're traveling . . . .

Hi Willy, is the status lights something that is in the works? I am not sure if this should go in the feature requests. I manually installed everything last week due to posts I have seen, but going forward can easily lose track of what is new this way.

Hi mudgel...
Sorry to hear all the troubke this has caused you but I'm glad it's getting straightened out and Willy's adding some months to your registration is a very nice gesture...
I hope your clients take this in stride... Personally I would simply have used x3e as I don't typically have any problems bringing a project forward into a newer release, but I totally understand
Here's hoping you have a great session when it's re-scheduled!

I don't use iLok but I have a tiny USB dongle with various licenses that I keep in my wallet. By far I prefer it to "phone home" solutions. There are always risks with any kind of copy protection. It sucks, but when push comes to shove I'd rather have as much personal control over my licenses as I can, seeing as it's MY ass and MY livelihood on the line. For CW it's "support issue number xxxx", for Mudgel it's loss of income and credibility. It would be good for CW to remember they cater to professionals as well as hobbyists.

@ Keni
I thk I might have mentioned it earlier but not sure: I had already started this project and was intending to do some additional recording and sorting out arrangements with some overdubs last night with today to finish off the recording. Probably aim for a burn to CD test to play in the car home.
Under those circumstances considering how much I had made use of Mix recall and Vocal sync for example, I didn't feel comfortable going ahead in X3. I had little time to make the call so cancelled. There's 5 hours of travel for the guys involved here and back home and an overnight stay so later this morning I will get back to them and reschedule. It's 8:30. Am now so just about to get on the phone.

So in "Demo mode" you can NOT save....correct? That was the main issue that your Sonar Plat was reverted to demo mode....hence recording new tracks would be a waste of time....?

That's the problem, in Demo Mode you can't save anything. Yes of course. I would never act deceptively. Not personally nor professionally I've told the guys the truth that's why I said when Sonar gets a black eye (in my hands) I get one too.
The deal was we were to work last night starting at about 8:00pm as they had about 2.5 hours travel, stay overnight and work all the next day before heading back home. I was in the studio mid afternoon making preparations for the session ahead and that's when I discovered that Sonar was in demo mode. Being in Australia there was no way to get help at that time of day so I posted on the forum and sent a PM to Willy along with filing out a support ticket with as much detail as I could provide.
Next step look at using X3e but too much of the project had already been done in Platinum to go back to a previous version only to go back to Platinum again. I had used a lot of Mix Recall and Vocal sync that I didn't want to damage or lose in some way. Decide to cancel in consultation with client. I couldn't with any certainty say that the problem would be sorted out by the morning so we agreed to wait till the issue was fully resolved and reschedule. I've had occassion in the recent past where email responses have been far from quick with Cakewalk. As it turns out at 8:00 am I recieved a pointless email from tech support telling me to do the things that I'd told tech support I'd already done, fortunately Willy had left a post in this thread letting me know that I should be OK and without having to do anything at my end, Sonar was working properly. That's why I included that the problem was sort of fixed but I don't know what had to be done. Funnily, neither did tech support. Contact client and have rescheduled for next week. They were impressed that support was so quick to get onto the problem so it was like putting a bit of makeup on the black eye. As these guys work shifts and scheduling their respective jobs to make this time available is quite a feat not to mention the 5 hours travel round trip, I've offered them a free 1 day tracking session once this project is finished and paid for. They are more than happy with my offer and has allowed us to put this behind us and work forward. Deep breath. mixmkr So in "Demo mode" you can NOT save....correct? That was the main issue that your Sonar Plat was reverted to demo mode....hence recording new tracks would be a waste of time....?
I was quite OK with your pre edited post. It's absence makes my post look a bit funny at the start.

Yeah...thx mudgel. After thinking about it, I saw no need to offer that kind of advice and didn't want to take the risk of it being misunderstood. (basically what I edited out was the suggestion letting Sonar take the "black eye" and just let the clients know what's going on. Seems mudgel is one step ahead of what I said as well)

Well, I guess they've still got to work out some kinks...as I am now in "demo" mode. gotta go to work anyway but have emailed customer support with relevant info and pmed Willy. I'm not too bothered as I don't have any clients or schedule to have to rearrange and gotta go garden for duckets anyway. I think I followed the instructions Willy posted but maybe it is the differing serial numbers which need to be manually modified for things to take effect. If so, I'm sorry some human is spending their time having to do this but assume it will all go into making the system work better in the future.

There is no different serial number involved when you change from monthly to fully paid.
