Track clips "Busy" message on clips won't go away - reappears whatever you do?
It's also in this two year old thread. http://forum.cakewalk.com...-go-away-m2831601.aspx I tried clearing picture cache, then it rebuilds on start and no busy message. Closing project and opening again - then it's back. You can follow instruction and select all - and do recomputer pictures - then it's fixed for that session it seems. But next time you open project it's back again. Any solution, workaround for this? Reported among bugs, or? Seems like a real old one, if not fixed. Thanks. EDIT: Went through all old Cakewalk folders on different drives, removed the picture cache everywhere. Started and loaded projects - picture cache on the expected folder tree is created. But closing and loading project - and busy is back. As it seems to me this is happening: a) project loads and clips shown - and text "busy" is thrown out everywhere. b) when all is loaded - project still show "busy". c) is there is a missing picture file, this is rebuilt - and in this case the text in clip is refreshed without "busy". So is maybe a refresh of clip texts just missing on all clips, removing "busy" - if there already is a picture file that can be used.when a picture is rebuilt - this replacement of clip text is refreshed as a final operation.

... more observations if I may bump it... Probably have something to do with "Cakewalk Projects" folder on both C and D drive. Starting up one project I got picture files on C-drive, after clearing out Picture cache. Then when rebuilding I got picture files on D-drive where my default project folder is. So Picture Cache for same files on two places. Not the full story, since some project also recide in full on D-drive - but related somehow. Is Sonar always looking in C-drive when loading project? Also got some "Cakewalk Projects older" and "Cakewalk Projects newer" on D-drive, but these remain empty for loaded sample projects.

SONAR only uses one picture cache, the one specified in Preferences > File > Audio Data. Is the D: drive a separate physical driver? Is the D: drive an internal or external drive? Where is the "Global Audio Folder" in Preferences > File > Audio Data pointing? How large is the picture cache? How large is the project in time/tracks?

Maybe exacerbated by switching between different versions of SONAR referencing two different picture cache paths in Preferences > Audio Data...?

Thanks guys. Tried different things: use save as copy and checked all copy audio and stuff - this with C-drive and D-drive as picture cache and project path. This with both C and D as target drive. Project was originally made on a 32-bit Sonar Studio 4 - really small one with an embryo theme. And thought for sure this Save Copy As would do the trick. But no - if starting with the assigned picture cache where empty from Wov files - it builds and no Busy in clips. But closing project and open again - it's back. I don't know, but naming of picture files changed after I made new names of everything - project name is in there somewhere with some hyphens. But still - if not finding old files, it build new ones, so? I will try further with a completely new SA2015 project, really weird. And if continues - I have a basic project to attach to CWBRN-report. It should just take one audio file. But still - found that Save Copy As - really good feature.

A "very" low audio-latency results in a slower building of picture data - or prevents even the drawing. We have great projects (50 GB Audio), because we restore old tapes and vinyl. We have no problems when we set driver mode to WDM and a greater latency. PicCacheMB is set to 2000.

Thanks - but the pictures are shown alright - I even think it's the correct picture drawn. So it's drawing stuff for waveforms - but the busy-ticket is on every clip either way. Is your example from the actuall recording and simulataneous drawing, maybe?

After Save Copy As and closing the original project, are you making sure you open the copy? Save As will update your recent files list so the new project is referenced, but with Save Copy As, you'll need to deliberately navigate to the new project file. The original will still be broken in either case, and whatever the cause because it's going to still be referencing the old picture files. Maybe SONAR has trouble reading some old pic files. I think I had some old projects that did that until I resaved them with new pictures.

All projects. And I did new tests now - even just recording a couple of handclaps on a Normal project template. Also rename default audio track name, since picture file is based on that also. Records fine - and looks fine. Close project and reopen - Busy is back. Recompute pictures - then busy is gone. If file is missing on loading project - busy first on and then goes away when done. Close project and reopen - Busy is back. I thought maybe some reference was made and written when recording - but it seems the same. Funny thing is that I see a new timestamp of wov file every time I open project. If it maybe stores a opening timestamp, or something. Some funny code for Artist only that is affected, I thought. So ran the same thing in X3 and even Sonar Studio 8.5.3 on same computer - same thing. I tried change to English setting for Sonar as I opened it. Seems W7 store that with each program you run so it remembers for each process somehow. Is it something with time zones or something - that filetimes are not local times and compared.

Yes, thanks I did use open then, and changed name of project to see if listed in recently used etc. I guess part of Save Copy is that existing project remains loaded.

Thanks. I moved them around quite a bit after this was discovered, to try and eliminate that they run the same picture files. One clue is that picture files always update timestamp when loading a project with Artist or X3 - which are having busy issue. Sonar 8.x studio - does not do that - and it works. Using longer clips, like 30 MB or something, you clearly see difference in speed when doing recompute+draw and just doing redraw. So Artist and X3 - they find the picture files - but something odd happends after loading project - timestamp is updated and busy text is not removed from clips. This could be entry level versions only thingy, some code that not Pro or Plat run. I have CWBRN on things I know are faulty, just with Artist and X3 too - so I would not be suprised. Could also be a dll common to X3 and Artist, that make X3 have this also. I think I will try and see with ProcessExplorer what dll's are opened with each of them.

A few things to consider: 1. Does Audiosnap enable/disable/stretched status play into this at all? 2. Have you zoomed out enough to see the entire clip(s)? I've observed in the past that sometimes the 'Busy' doesn't go away until SONAR has to display the entire clip. 3. Maybe try toggling Display Clip Contents and or Maximize Waveform Height in the View menu.

Thanks for suggestions. Zoomed entire clips but no change - busy stays. As I looked at it - it seems the busy thing is put there to tell it's working with something - so be patient, kind of. Then finalizing what it's doing - it's supposed to remove that. So something goes wrong at the end of draw existing picture files. Some little exception not handled or something - so busy is never removed. And this that picture file gets new timestamp - does not seem logical. Artist does not have Audiosnap, or? But found this running ProcessExplorer - since some things are common to X3 and Artist: For some reason, X3 open two dll's in Artist folder - DshowProxy.dll and Stretch.ax - if they are at all related to anything with calculating picture files. Both dll's timestamped March 4th 2015. Must be some dependancy in common there. Both also open same DeWire.dll. If related to picturedrawing it could explain why my X3 also got this feature - since both use these dll's and ax-filter. And dll's are a week old, and my X3e a year old. So don't know if there is a special build of these dll's for Artist that is not having Audiosnap etc - and thereby has a bug in the code shipped for Artist version? Some code is not run at the end - and a possible exception maybe. Starts to feel we are in the right realm to narrow down...

Hmmm... curiouser and curiouser. Stretch.ax is the old Time/Pitch Stretch DX plugin that was 32-bit only. Could be part of the problem, but if it was used in an old 32-bit project, then you should get a warning that it's not available in x64 . See this thread in any case: http://forum.cakewalk.com/FindPost/2393527

Sorry to be late. I've been REALLY busy and also needed to 'refresh' myself. I always saw this issue in X2 Essential and X3 base version (don't remember X1 Essential) and could never fix it. But it just disappeared when I upgraded to Platinum. My PC, audio interface and Preferences settings have always been the same and I've been using just one Picture Cache folder for all versions, so this must be an issue specific to the entry versions.

Hello. I was having issues with redraws busy all the time, when opening up my projects and or after recording long sessions. it seems now, after a rebuild of my system, and making absolutely sure of the slots in the MB shared states, and with what is being shared, and moving things off of controller / MSmedia HD controllers/and or turning off other device chips in the bios to free up shared states, even moving the video card off of the 1st slots with some of these controllers that cannot be turned off, has helped make my projects open faster, and redraws are now faster in the making, as my video and thunderbolt and HD controller was all shared via slot assignments...and only had the video card installed, with TB to test the setup, and it was ok, but not perfect....and wanting to add a card on the 1x pcie...having to consult the manual for shared or free slots brought me to the answers for my setups needed. So not saying I am right, but for me, making absolutely sure everything from the ground up is in line first...otherwise it is a goose hunt. Just trying to help...those asking for it....baby steps first.

Thank you, really good to hear - about refresh and what you had to say, it's a bug then. I put that info about shared files to support yesterday and will see how they respond. Either way it seems that older versions should not use Artist folder files - an installer oversight. But think it's mature enough for a CWBRN report too - both busy issue and shared files. Seems I'm pretty much alone running sneak version Sonar.

Well, "refresh", I read as a trip to Philippines or something. Filed a CWBRN earlier for busy issue.
