AD2 mysteriously panning to right randomly
Hi, does anyone know how to fix this or maybe what's going on...I can't work it out. I have some midi beats on and AD2 track. For some reason, it keeps panning right to 92% randomly. I'll reset it to C and it goes okay for a while and does it again. I've not set up any auto panning, but I did try it to see whether it would stay central. It kept doing it, so I created a new instance of AD2, and dragged the beats to it and deleted first instance...nope, still doing it on the new track. Would it somehow be in the midi track itself - haven't played with any controllers there, so haven't a clue on this one. Does anyone know how to maybe reset or delete this info assuming it's somewhere in the track itself? Thanks

Have you checked through the MIDI file using the event list view? That'd be one way to make sure the culprit isn't lurking there somewhere. Is there any automation on the track? I've only just upgraded to AD2 from AD1, so haven't really used it yet myself, hence I'd not have seen this issue.

No, that I haven't done...never occurred to me to check the event list view...will do that. There was initially a volume automation only. Actually I noticed it on a voc mix today, which has a couple of automations. It would just throw to an extreme right pan, which not programmed at all...so it's not just AD2. When I loaded the above take - ad2 - into platinum, this issue did not occur. So it appear to be something weird in X3. Thanks for the suggestion and will follow that up.

Do you have any external controllers in use? If so, it is possible that a knob/fader has a connection issue (may only need to be cycled a few times to clean). SONAR responds to inputs, so "something" is giving it input it is responding to. Other than that, the event list is all I can think of as well. You may want to also check pan automation in case you inadvertently enabled this thinking it was volume.

Are you familiar with the "Edit Filters" button in the Track View? The Default is Clips, but the little drop down will let you select Automation>Pan or Volume and you can see if any Panning envelopes show up on the screen. I have inadvertently hit the "W" (Write) button on a track before and was recording volume envelopes without knowing it (I wasn't paying attention..lol), then wondered why the fader kept moving.

I think you've hit the nail on the head there...I just noticed on my Roland A-800, that a Rotary 4 message was flashing...I hadn't even touched it, nor was pan automation set, so it's got me, but it looks like it indeed has a connection issue - not sure what you mean by 'cycled a few times to clean? I did move it to where it was central if that's what you mean? Now I've seen it active whilst the comp is playing, I can monitor it to see if it is the issue.

Thanks...I've also looked at this - and no I'm not real familiar at all...don't normally use it, but now I'll investigate. I do however think it's the external controller doing something weird.

A lot of electrical contacts will corrode slightly over time and have a "wiper" contact inside of them. Simply rotate it back and forth several times until you see it "truly zero." As you have visual indication as well, try rotating Rotary 4 back and forth until the message on it goes away. Same concept as volume/tone pots on a guitar... whenever they start not having smooth connections/static, cycle the knob full range a few times until it goes away.

Ohh...yes I've had to do that with amps/guitars over the years. Thanks for that. When/if it happens I give that a go. Cheers

That seems to have been the problem. Thanks heaps for that suggestion...it was sending me bonkers...well more bonkers than usual.

Is all good, I am glad you got it fixed. I had a controller years ago that used to "walk" so much that I ended up disabling the rotaries, and finally replaced it.

Yes, despite twisting and turning it, there's still some small movements going and it always associated with this particular rotary...but so far at least, it's not as rad as it was...and it's not like I use these rotaries much at all...usually it's just for the keyboard. Cheers
