Markers to tempo map?
Hello all. I have a pre-mixed stereo file not recorded to a click track. I have created a marker at the first beat of each measure. My questions are: 1.) Is there a way to define the beat map from these markers? 2.) Is there a way to generate user transient markers via these markers? 3.) Is there a way to split selected tracks via these markers in one fell swoop? 4.) Is there a way to hide/unhide markers? Thanks for sharing. Blues

Sorry, forgot to mention I'm using Sonar Platinum (x64). It's in my sig but not everyone sees that and shouldn't have to read it anyway. Blues

1. There's not automatic way to create a tempo map from Markers, but this goes pretty quickly: - Set the Now time at each Marker (I have Previous/Next bound to Ctlr+PgUp/Down) in turn. - Hit Shift+M to open the Set Measure/Beat At Now dialog, enter the measure and beat 1, and OK. - If the tempo is relatively relatively steady, and just drifting around a little, SONAR will probably guess the correct measure and beat in most cases after the first, and you can just hit Enter. 2. Inserting user transient markers is also a manual thing, but it's going to be problematic because even with all the detected markers disabled, SONAR is going to enforce rules about how far markers can be moved, and not let one marker move across another. Better to just snap the nearest existing marker (dragging by the center diamond so you don't stretch audio) to each measure after you've gone through the above process, and then disable everything else. But If you've already created a tempo map, I'm not sure why you would need matching transient markers...? 3. You can split at transient markers if you've done the above, but it would be easier to split at measures based on the tempo-mapped timeline. 4. I don't think you can hide markers.

4 - I haven't tried it, but maybe you can temporarily change the color of the markers to match that of the timeline ruler background.

Thanks brundlefly. I was trying to think outside of the box looking for an easy way to get a beat map like many seem to be looking for. Anyway, what I ended up doing was to edit the clip internal beat map with audiosnap. I set the resolution to ALL and then just lined up little black arrow measure markers to transient markers closest to the regular markers I had already created. I was already close using an average tempo suggested by audiosnap. That worked quite well though not as perfectly as I would have liked. A weird thing that happened though before doing it this way. Using audiosnap I set it to whole notes (I believe) and created the beat map using measures. I played it and listened and was surprised when it SOUNDED PERFECT all the way through. Then I watched NOW time marker as it went along and listened again. It started out fine but then drifted so that the measures in the time line were wrong by a measure half-way through and two measures by the end. So even though it SOUNDED perfect, I can't use that beat map to create the rest of the MIDI stuff I need. I hope that all made sense. Thanks for your help. Blues

Thanks for chiming in. That's a clever idea and actually do-able. I keep forgetting about all the customization possibilities in Sonar. To completely match the background would take quite a bit of tweaking but I discovered that all I really needed was a lighter color that makes them sit kind of in the background behind the ruler and that works just fine for me. So, thanks for pointing me to a useful solution. Blues
