Automation issues with NI plugins

Hey guys, I'm running producer 8.5.3 on a windows 8.1 64 bit system and I've been running into some automation issues. For most of what I do automation works fine but I'm currently running into some strange issues with this latest song. With Kontakt 5's evolve mutations 2 I found a melodic suite I really liked but wanted to automate the "tune" knob so that I could change the pitch of what had become the bassline for my song. Unfortunately, it's not automatically mapped to anything and while I was able to map it to my controller it wont create an automation envelope as I move it. I worked around this by cloning the instrument several times for each pitch and creating a corresponding midi track for each. Seeing as how resource intensive this is I'd like to correct the problem and figure out how to map it to an envelope.

Now on to my 2nd issue, which IMO is even stranger. I found a patch in Massive that I like and I set up my controller to adjust various attributes of the synth I'm using, but when automation write is enabled turning those knobs doesn't create or affect the envelopes that should be altered. Turning these knobs with my mouse inside the instrument alters the envelope but the controller wont.

Any help is much appreciated! Probably a simple solution I'm overlooking or don't know about!
