Missing features I expected from the virtual keyboard

for whatever reason i thought these would be included features:

1. Keys depress along with MIDI controller input.
2. Mod wheel (which also responds to MIDI controller input)
3. Dockable
3. Resizable

More than happy with the caps lock mode though.

Not sure what I'm missing...if you have a MIDI controller, why do you need the virtual one?

    2. Mod wheel (which also responds to MIDI controller input)

The way it's handled with touch is pretty slick. But you need touch.

Just tried it on an 8 inch tablet. I'm only getting giant keys from C to F. I wish I could get a whole octave with smaller keys.

Let Cakewalk know, and specify the type of tablet.

For example when filming a video cast viewers can see which midi notes are being played

Several instruments in SONAR already have keyboards that display incoming MIDI data, you can just load one of those:

    • DropZone
    • Sound Center
    • True Pianos

In a related option, Strum Acoustic reads chords, gives their names, and shows guitar fingerings (not always the ones I'd choose, but hey...) for those chords.

The PRV keyboard shows incoming notes too.

Hmm... so no way to do mod wheel stuff without touch? Might have been nice to maybe have a Mod and Pitch strip (or even better an X/Y pad) on the GUI we could ride with a mouse. Like left click-hold + drag to send CC data.

I haven't tried it yet but it certainly looks much fancier than the very basic one in [DAW name redacted]. I am definitely glad they thought of this. I had been wanting something along these lines since I first bought Sonar. Setting up controllers all the time just to play around on/learn synth crap is kind of a buzzkill. I don't have a lot of room in my little "studio" so I can't keep those things set up all the time. I have to go out of my way to do it and then I inevitably get distracted by some other shiny thing (or stinky lump of poo from the  meatworld).

You can, but it involves pushing keys:
