Cheers Mesh, installing now

I must admit, I took a peek upstairs after reading your info, and as usual, someone's posted a new thread pointing to the Cambridge announcement sticky at the top of that forum.

So, one has to wonder, what is the point of all those stickies if people believe it's necessary to start a new thread to inform users of the update

Did they post an update thread to show that they've made an update to the notice of the update?

Because many people ignore/scroll past the stickies. I wouldn't have noticed if it wasn't mentioned in a thread I was in and if I hadn't been in that thread the thread posted likely would have been the first I heard of it.

This is a good release. Let's be happy.

Edit: and the stickies are there because. well it's an official announcement that needs to stick around until the next release.

Because many people ignore/scroll past the stickies.

That's exactly my point Beep.

The stickies are just a massive waste of space and time. Nobody reads them.

Don't you get the email notifications? I got mine about 10 minutes after I read Mesh's OP.

Well, that's subjective of course. There is absolutely nothing that excites me in there. And it broke my Control Bar.

So.... meh.

Why don't they listen to the numerous requests and have a 'collapse' option for stickies I wonder.

Thinking about it, if the stickies were hidden/collapsed at the top of each forum by default, I'm guessing that more people would actually read them. Instead of just scrolling down and ignoring them, you'd be a lot more likely to expand them every now and again to check for anything 'important'. Or maybe it might be possible to have the option to automatically hide/collapse any sticky once you'd opened that thread.

And incidentally, my comments were not specifically directed at the OP in the particular thread I mentioned. Rather it was more a general observation on the (tiresome) compulsion some people feel in having to duplicate official sticky announcements in the same forum as that sticky is posted.

That is a memorial sticky, which is an honorable thing to have.

I'm still not sure if it's a good or bad thing to install Cambridge........after reading a few thread upstairs, it seems to be a bit of both.

I haven't been paying a whole lot of attention today and I have yet to install the new stuff (actually I haven't even installed most of the extras from Braintree yet either) but the only downside I've seen so far is that it might ignore where you've placed the Custom Module in the Control bar (some people ahve said it will reposition itself to the very right of the CB after you close and reopen). I'm guessing there will be a quickfix for that soon enough and it's not a HUGE issue but that would be annoying I guess.

To me the major thing they did was make MixRecall remember all your routing changes. Before it would not recall new busses or if you changed outputs so that's a big improvement (although it probably should have been baked in already).

The Virtual Keyboard will be useful for me because I don't really want to hook up a controller everytime I want to try out patches or just toss in something quick. Looks like they did a good job with that.

They fixed that Bark of the Dog problem and added the "Panipulator" which looks like it might be useful. At first I thought it would be like the VRM Box but it looks like a quick mono switch and way to test various, common speaker configs (but doesn't emulate actual speakers... just their wiring and junk).

Bunch of fixes that I haven't botherd looking into. The Les Paul patches will likely be useful for non guitar players (if they sound good which I'm assuming they will). Fancy new Phaser thingie by Craig.

IDK... they really added quite a bit for such a short period. I mean it's only been one month since the last release which had quite a few things as well but this one is... well a lot more.

Seriously though for practical puposes that MixRecall improvement is a big deal.

Now only time will tell whether it all works. lol

Cheers.

Sorry... it may have been a little longer than a month. Not sure exactly when Braintree came out. Honestly I've been tracking so much lately I haven't even touched most of the new stuff in Platinum aside from the Control Bar and AD2. It seems to be pretty stable on my rig. I did however just have a problem with a CWB going corrupt but I kind of expected that.

You can always rollback if something goes wonky. I'm kind of letting everything accumulate for now until I really need it. I'm currently on Braintree but only installed the main Sonar components (none of the extra goodies). Once I start mixing I'll definitely be snagging this update because I want to try various routing... that is unless I see reports of epic failure with MR. Kind of want to see what Bark of the Dog can do for my bass tracks too because they ain't quite as meaty as I'd like and maybe that'll be a quick dial in without screwing up the sound (which is good... just not as ball rattling as I'd like).

Let me know how it works out for you.

Thanks.

I don't often venture upstairs, but thanks for the headsup.  Certainly appears the Baker's have been very busy this year, great effort for a small company. Hope this update is a great success.

BTW, are there any dress/attire requirements to enter upstairs, and is there a psychedelic designated area for the 'reefa toking, trippy loftily minded' to expand their consciousness? -- {nevermind}
