X3 - mute clip doesnt work but erase does

Question about the MUTE tool. I cant get it work on a clip, at all. Nor can I get the "Mute clip" function to work on any clip. The Erase tool works perfectly just like it should - mute, never.

Is the Mute tool only for comping? If not, what am I doing wrong?

ok I figured something out, the Mute will work if I turn on the Take Lanes and view the clip as a Take. Is this how its supposed to work?

Click on a clip, I mean select it. Press K.

You can also goof around with Alt K. Check out the keyboard shortcuts when you have time.

I was just reviewing Eli Krantzberg's "SONAR EXPLAINED" on Groove 3 yesterday and what he said was that the clip that you want to mute should be highlighted (in focus) before you select the Erase Tool.  So yes!....if the the clip that you want to mute is in a Take Lane, you would need to have the lanes displayed and the clip you want to mute highlighted.  It will then instantly become the Mute Tool when you click the Erase Tool button.  Hope this helps?

nothing happens at all when I press K. I'm using X3 Studio, perhaps thats why? Alt K brings up an effects dialog box

Here's a link to the Sonar X3 keyboard shortcuts.  About halfway down the page you'll see that K is the shortcut to mute a clip.
