[CWBRN-32126] - Mix Recall does not export tracks in collapsed folders

Title says it already ...

I tried to give mix recall another try after I had crashes with K5 when I first gave it a go ... so this time the project is a simple, not yet finished mix where I quickly wanted to export 3 versions (all tracks, vox muted, guitars muted) for the guys to take home and practise some more ... it took about 1 minute to set up (just muting the respective channels and disabling FX recall to make loading faster), hit CTRL + A to select all tracks and then started to batch export all 3 mixes ...

I was very to happy that now can leave the workstation by itself and return 15 minutes later and upload the mixes ... but when returning, I had a mix without drums and synths. So I thought pilot error, used CTRL+A again and restarted batch export ... and got same result ... so the 3rd time around I stayed and watched and had to realize that when the mix is being recalled collapsed track folders (which were my missing drums and synth) are no longer selected after the recall when exporting commences ... so now 4th attempt: expand all track folders, CTRL + A and start export in batch mode ... and there you go: 3 mixes exported as expected ...

So is this the next mix recall bug? Can anyone verify before I officially report it?

Hmmm .... no one using "mix recall" to batch export versions of the same mix??? I think someone else should have seen this when using it ...

Just try batch exporting a regular mix and a vox-up mix using collapsed folders ... takes a minute to setup ...

I have confirmed what you have outlined. I tested out what you described and I get the same result. However, I tested a bit further and discovered this:

If you select absolutely nothing, everything exports as expected, including everything within collapsed folders. It is the act of making a selection that will leave out the collapsed folders when using Mix Recall.

    So to recap:
    1. Collapse folder or folders
    2. Make a selection for exporting
    3. Export using Mix Recall as source
    4. Expected result: All tracks are audible in each mix
    5. Actual result: Every track within any collapsed folder is not audible

    ---------------------------

Repeat steps above but make NO selection, tracks export as expected.
Repeat steps above with folders expanded, tracks export as expected

    ----------------------------

There are times when it is important to only export a certain time selection, so being able to export a selection should not leave out tracks within a collapsed folder. This is not a show stopper, as one only needs to expand all folders before exporting, however it would be nice to know that you can export selections with complete confidence that all tracks regardless of the current state of any folders will be properly exported.

Good catch, thank you for sharing this.

    Hi Charles

Thanks for your time to test and take this a step further!

As you say it's not a show stopper but I think it needs to be addressed in one of the next releases. I always leave quite a few measures empty at project start ... just in case the band decides to go for a longer intro ... thus avoiding unnecessary project edits during tracking sessions ... so for this quick bounce of 3 different mixes for the musos I had to select the proper time selection and ran into this issue ...

So I will officially report this and add your detailed info for Cakewalk to understand the "problem".

    Cheers,

    Rob

I am happy to be a contributing member of this community and help when I can. I have been helped by members here and I am just making deposits on my "pay it forward" program. Let's keep an eye on this to see how it pans out. Ha ha, I said pans out. There is an irrelevant pun in there somewhere.

I already fixed this for the next release. Technically its not a mix recall bug but was a side effect of opening and closing folders in the GUI clearing the selection of tracks in the folder.
As Charles mentioned, if there is no selection before doing the export (i.e. you are exporting the entire project) then you won't run into this problem.

Excellent! I'm looking forward to the next update as my workflow usually includes exports based on time selections.

    Thanks a lot!
