Navigating with Enhanced Editing not working?

Hi-

I was looking for a quick way to move to the next/previous clip in the current track. I followed these instructions from the Help file for Selecting with a keyboard:

To enable selecting with a keyboard
1. On your QWERTY keyboard, press the NumLock key to enable NumLock mode.
2. On the numeric keypad, press 0 to enable keyboard editing.
3. On the numeric keypad, press 3 to enable Select mode.

Ctrl+4 and Ctrl+6 (Move to previous and next clip) do nothing. I don't think any of the keys work as indicated, but I didn't try them all. A white line appears indicating I'm in editing mode, but the line isn't on the active track, which it should be, as I understand it. These are MIDI clips, if that matters.

Does this feature work for anyone else? If not, I'll report it, but in the meantime is there another quick way to navigate to next/previous clips?

TIA-

-Susan

It's working here. But understand that Ctrl 4/6 just creates two boundary cursors the move from clip to clip, marking the beginning and end of a clip. Alt+6 actually selects the clip between the boundaries. and then Alt 4/6 will shrink or extend the selection by snap intervals.

I think I might have found out something just now. The active/selected track I was trying to navigate was in a folder and the cursor (I only had one) was showing up a few tracks below. If I try it with an unfoldered track, it works as you describe. Could you try that when you have a minute? I wouldn't think that's by design.

    Thanks-

    Hi Mike-

If you mean that it only works on unfoldered tracks, no, not that I saw anywhere. If someone can confirm it, I'll report it unless for some reason it's by design. Can't think why it would be, though.

I'm giving this Enhanced Editing mode a try for the first time, and it seems to be working correctly in a project that has lots of track folders. Clicking a track doesn't make the white line move to the track, but hitting 2/8 can move it to a desired track. I've been wondering if there's a way to select the next/previous clip without using the mouse, and now I can do it with Ctrl+Alt+4/6. Great!

But...is there any other way to enter the mode? I use Num 0 for some other command that I frequently use, and I don't want to remove it...

    Tak T.

Sorry Susan, I didn't explain myself. I meant in regard to the keyboard shortcuts that are being used.

I meant ot mention that I also observed that the Enhanced Editing cursor did not start out on the track that had focus, and the focused track was in a folder. But, as Tak mentioned, 2/8 will move the cursor from track to track.

Michael, search "Enhanced Editing" in the Ref. Guide.

Note that back in S8.5 and earlier, the EE cursor blinked, and also had an icon next to it that showed what mode it was in; this made it much easier use and also to notice and understand what was going on when you enabled it inadvertently. I entered a problem report about this a version or three ago, but since this feature never really caught on with users, I don't think it's likely to get much attention from the Bakers.

    Hi Dave-

Thanks for the explanation. It's a little too fiddly for what I wanted to do, but apparently it's working as designed (except for not starting on the track with focus.)
