Akai MPC Element - any user here - problem with USB

Any MPC user here ? I'm posting it here at software instead of hardware as it seems driver related.

I just installed my MPC Element / Essential software and it operate well within the MPC hardware. But when I plug out the MPC pad and reuse the USB for a midi keyboard, the midi keyboard will only operate a minute or two and then shuts off. I have to unplug the USB cable and re-insert it, then it will operate for a while, before it shuts off again.

I think it only affects the USB port that was connected to the MPC and not other USB port as my Roland Quad continue to work normally. After I uninstalled the Akai/MPC USB driver and restart the PC, the USB midi keyboard works fine without shutting off.

To Akai MPC users, do you have to set aside a USB for your MPC full time ?

Edit : The above scenario is while I'm running Sonar.

I do not have a MPC but I have an Akai MPK49 - this is now in the store cupboard and has been replaced by a Novation Impulse as I had about three years of USB issues which no matter what I tried I could never stop them occurring - working perfectly one moment, sending out phantom midi notes the next, then dropping out completely - a nightmare! Which was a real shame as when it worked it was a great controller keyboard.
The issues you describe do sound horribly familiar...........
    Hope this helps

Nigel, I'm quite surprised that a good name like Akai would have such an issue. I do have the Akai usb EWI (wind controller) that worked flawlessly.

I only tested it while Sonar was running, for recording midi tracks. Don't really use a midi keyboard controller outside of Sonar, but I may test it at a later time - which means I'll have to install the Akai MPC driver again, something I'm kinda reluctant to do so.
