[CWBRN-32272] - Name & looping properties lost when importing MIDI Groove Clips

Hi-

I create a MIDI groove clip (Groove-Clip Looping) and drag it to the Media Browser. When I later drag it into a project, it's no longer a groove clip and the name is now "Track 1", regardless of what track it started on or what track I dragged it to. Same thing happens if I import it through the File menu.

The supplied groove clips retain both their names and looping. What's the trick?

I feel like I asked this before, but I can't find the thread and I don't remember the answer. Can't find it in the docs, either.

Thanks for any help.

-Susan

[Edit: I added a note to the Problem Report that this doesn't happen when importing Groove Clips that shipped with SONAR, so it seems to be a function of the export process.]

Pg 833 in the manual shows how to import/export MIDI groove clips.

    Hi Mike-

Yes. I tried both methods for exporting and all three methods for importing and I still lose the clip name and looping properties when I import it. I'm missing something else that would allow those to be retained.

    Thanks-

I'm not seeing a problem with Export > MIDi Groove Clip which I've used in the past, but dragging a groove clip to the browser in Platinum does not appear to be saving the groove properties; I verified it works in X3e.

Also, I'm seeing that the file is shown with the full path to the MIDI Groove Clips folder when dragged to the browser from Platinum, where X3e just shows the name. Possibly this is related to the previously reported issue that MIDI clips can no longer be exported by dropping on the Desktop.

EDIT: More precisely, the path is being included in the file name with underscores replacing slashes when dragging from Platinum.

Yes, that's exactly what I'm seeing. I remember now that when it was working I had just started on X3, but I switched to Platinum a few weeks later and hadn't tried it since.  It seems that whatever happens happens in the export process, since I can drag groove clips that came with SPlat into a project and the properties (name & looping) are intact.

    Thanks for checking, Dave.

This is true, and dragging an audio groove clip to the browser does not retain its "grooviness." You need to use the Save Loop function in the Loop Construction Window.

    Hi Dave-

I looked at that issue you mentioned ([CWBRN-32132] Can't drag MIDI clips from Sonar Platinum Track View to the Windows Desktop here: http://forum.cakewalk.com/FindPost/3181996) and I agree it might very well be related, but I'm inclined to submit this issue anyway. If nothing else, it will provide CW with more information. I'm not sure now if I should post this in the Problem Reports forum (or if it should be moved there) or go directly to the Problem Reporter.

I guess I'll let it simmer a bit.

    Susan,
I agree with your inclination to submit a new Problem Report.

While the problem you experience may be related to [CWBRN-32132], the steps that reproduce your problem are different and would be needed by QA to verify that the problem is fixed.

I am only guessing, but I suspect that the Drag and Drop problems were introduced by Platinum enhancements detailed by Dan Gonzalez in the Cakewalk blog (http://blog.cakewalk.com/drag-and-drop-new-tricks/).  Specifically, look at Copy or Replace Files Using Drag and Drop.

Edit:  Neglected to mention that I can reproduce your problem in Platinum.

I just checked the status and it says "Awaiting Reply," but I never got a question. The only email I got was the confirmation that it had been submitted.

I left a note on the report asking what the question was. Has anyone seen this before?

    Thanks-

    Susan,
I have had two of my problem reports start with a status of "Awaiting Reply" with no questions.  After a couple of days when the status didn't change, I sent a message to Technical Support (http://www.cakewalk.com/Contact/TechnicalSupport) and asked if there was anything else they needed.  In both cases I got a reply back within a day or two with a status update.

Just stepped in to say - the "Awaiting Reply" status reflects that there has been a message sent from your end via the Problem Report, and is awaiting a reply from us. Hope that clears up some confusion!

    Hi Joe-

    Ah! <light bulb = on>
Just to follow up, I called TS yesterday and the status is now "Submitted to Development." I think there has been some confusion about who's waiting for a reply from whom based on other posts as well, but that clears it up.

    Thanks!
