Problem with cutting/copying/pasting entire project flakey when using comped tracks

I am having a nightmare trying to rearrange a song that is made up of comped tracks and various other edits.   This is especially bad when I use the "move over and make room" option but it is not totally limited only when I do that.  The first symptom is that when I highlight a region I want to move, all the tracks don't accept the highlight and when I copy or cut , those tracks are not included.   Or sometimes they are but when I paste, everything moves all over the place.   I do make sure they are highlighted on the left and that all are set to "clips" but the "shadow" doesnt show up in the region.   The issues are too inconsistent to properly describe.   I read about these behaviors else where, usually related to older X version but this is really pretty bad and unless you (I) know in advance all the movements of sections I'm going to do before I trim or overdub or anything, it becomes practically impossible to get this large scale editing to work.   This should be a bug that Sonar developers really need to fix as it really could render a project unusable.  Is there some tricks/workarounds that work?   I've had  SOME success just moving things completely out the way and then piecing back together but that defeats the purpose of "the powerful editing features" SONAR is supposed to have.   This wasn't an issue back in X1, X2 as far as I recall.  Assistance anyone?
