Valhalla VintageVerb install blocked by Norton

I downloaded ValhallaVintageVerbWin_V1_5_0.exe yesterday. Today I right clicked it / Run as Administrator but Norton immediately quarantined it (WS.Reputation.1).

I'm sure I can pull this out of quarantine and run it, right?

Of the many years of installing plugins from mainstream sources (usually after hearing good reports from these Forums), Norton has never blocked any. This is my 1st plugin from Valhalla and I was saving it for a special song I am currently working on.

There must be hundreds of you that have this plugin :)

Yes, you can. If you can't figure out how to get around it Google the work around/fix.

Also make sure that you've updated you update the Norton antivirus definitions.

The WS.Reputation.1 reported by Norton is not a virus warning, it means that this file has a low or no reputation (low % of usage) among Norton users.
Considering that Norton has possibly tens of millions of users - Some audio related programs/plug-ins will never have a high enough reputation to not have problem with such a system.

Thanks for the reply, much appreciated :)

Yes I will release it from quarantine now and get back to work.

FYI, I also heard from Valhalla, who explained the Norton quarantine much as eloquently explained above. Further they provided this interesting  link by way of further explanation: https://www.codeandweb.com/blog/2012/06/23/how-symantec-ruins-independent-developers

Thanks again!

Best thing to do would be to simply uninstall Norton.

^^^ +1 to sharke's suggestion. You already have a pernicious virus on your system, and it's called "Norton Antivirus".

I was going to say something far less diplomatic and polite the other day, but discretion got the better of me. It is a hideous thing, and so many PC's are sold with it installed, it is the first thing to go, not that I buy off the shelf, but, laptops and friends machines that encounter trouble, it's goneski's

Well I appreciate the responses re: Norton and I agree with the above assessment from Valhalla, but I just happen to be one who has liked Norton since my techie days (95 - 2000, when we also relied heavily on Zone Alarm and others) and I have never had a compromised pc in a household of 3-5 family pcs, contrary to many unfortunate musicians I know here locally. Two of my current clients cannot even email me at this time because their pcs are so fouled up. But I appreciate your comments. Also I do run other virus programs and anti-malware,

FYI #1: I installed Valhalla yesterday and am enjoying it. I wanted it for a long time.

FYI #2, Here is the rapid response I got from Norton:

"In relation to submission [3761131].

Upon further analysis and investigation we have verified your submission and, as such, the detection(s) for the following file(s) will be removed from our products:

AFACB122CD29736F372D4B140840F2F1 - ValhallaVintageVerbWin_V1_5_0.exe

The updated detection(s) will be distributed in the next set of virus definitions..."

Thanks again, I do appreciate the rapid help from these forums, from Valhalla and from Norton regarding this issue :)
