How to select for editing small portions (notes) of a track?

I have searched through the help files (SONAR LE) about how to select small portions (notes) of an audio track and found a paragraph describing holding down the 'alt' key and dragging the curser across the area to be selected, but it does not work. Nothing is selected. So how does one select a certain note , or group of notes, for editing. Sometimes the whole clip is ok, but only one or two notes need editing. Maybe adjust the volume, move the note a few milliseconds in timing, add an FX to just one phrase, or delete it totally. How do we select that note or small section of a track clip? Usually it's just on one track. I can not find anything that works. Help!! Thanks, Larry Robertson, Denver area, falcondoctor@msn.com

Not sure what you mean by only a few notes in an audio track? Do you mean a MIDI track or a small section of audio?

Either way you should be able to click drag in the lower half of a clip to select a portion. Holding the alt key while doing that should split the clip. That is assuming that you are using the smart tool. Press F5 to make sure that the smart tool is the current selection.

If you're in track view it's a FBB said. If in the piano roll view, use the right mouse button for lassoing.
