The problem with these things is always that the price is insane. They look nice and like they are great quality, but the price to make a boom stand is obscene. They are trying to fix a problem that really doesn't exist while charging a premium for it.

Cost is relative to the task.
I have a table saw I bought a sears. Works fine for me.
My friends build speaker cabinets and other stuff. The bought a large blade saw. it was huge and way heavy. It required installing 3-phase electric service to a second floor workshop. And the addition of custom made table extensions.
They spent what to me was an "obscene" amount of money. To them it was a great investment that reduced errors, improved productivity, increased quality, and therefore enhanced reputation and sales.
As the guy wrote in the Tape Op review, had he been using one of these stands his way good mic would probably not have been damaged. Priceless.
I have not great need for these stands as I now mostly work alone in my home. But I do remember times when such versatile, stable, and configurable stands would have been appreciated.

I also like quality and durability.
These stands are down right cheap compared to the Latch Lake ones, not that I can afford either.

That's kind of comparing apples and oranges there. A more realistic comparison would be like comparing Sonar to Audacity or Reaper if we're comparing saws. A mic stand does one task and if you invest a little more in it than $50, it does the job perfectly. To compare, a boom stand with the Orbit system costs around $358... for a standard size boom stand. That's over 3x more than a comparable Atlas boom stand or at least $59 (plus around $35 for shipping because it looks like they only sell them on their own website and of course, charge for shipping on their premium stuff) more than a Latch Lake boom. Granted, people can spend their money on whatever they want but the reality is this seems like a well built vanity item to me.

Not about fruit.
The comparison is between simple use and need for significant flexibility and efficiency in production environments.
And, as the reviewer wrote, "While we were reviewing these products, we had a session during which we did a vocal mic shootout. Don't ask how, but our U 47 long-body clone was set up on a standard music-store tripod. As life would have it, the client walked by, kicking the stand accidentally. The mic flew, hit the deck, and suffered substantial internal damage. Had the mic been on a Triad T3, the client might have hurt his foot, but my mic would have survived unscathed."

I use this to plant annuals in the flower beds along the driveway  sorry ... the mic stands look fantastic!!!

Oh...and, I love quality, hi-end stuff, but can't really afford this luxury.
Back in the day, when I played out every week, two to four times a week, we had mic stands that were made of real steel, with real welds and real speal gezeal...you get the point.
When I purchased a bunch of new stands for my studio, I paid the premium for what was considered best for the online shops like, well you know them, so no need to mention them. I was not impressed compared to my recollections of the good old days.
I even bought a couple guitar stands to replace my 30 year old stands, that finally bit the dust, that were on the road with me and it just broke my heart, with regards to quality.
Made somewhere with not so good material, rather than in the USA with good material...I guess.

I had the opportunity to see these in our office last year. They look great and if the price were somewhat lower, I would have gotten a couple. I see these being purchased more readily by larger entities... or BobF.

It all depends. Buying a $400 stand for a $200 mic is misplaced priorities. $400 for a $4000 mic isn't, as the reviewer relates.
It is also a bit much for home. In a pro studio that sells time - a great mic stand presents a pro environment. More guys today track at studios and mix at home so you don't want to short appearances, esp. in the tracking room. A $25 stand (like I have at home) works fine, but I don't bring in kids on drugs and drink to stumble around (I do enough stumbling myself) and put my mics up directly after use. Note: I did drop my first mic (but it was the suspension not stand) a while back. $300 repair re-learned me to double check. If I had room here I'd have preferred to spend it on a stand.
