Now why have I not discovered Dave Evans before now
I thought I knew all the old British fingerstyle players. I looked this guy up after seeing his name on a book of fingerstyle Celtic pieces he collaborated on with Duck Baker and Stefan Grossman. What a voice, and if you check out some of his other videos his solo fingerstyle playing is phenomenal. PS just look at that guitar. LOL!

Really nice. I don't know much of the Brit folksters but I have always really loved Bert Jansch. They sound like they came from the same school.

I'm a huge fan of Bert's as well. If you've ever come across a Bert Jansch guitar tab online there's a good chance it's mine. I'm glad I got to meet him before he died. Someone emailed me just the other day saying that the mother of Bert's late wife, a trustee of the Bert Jansch Foundation, is drawing sources for a book of transcriptions of his tunes and asking me if I'd be interested in contributing. It would be awesome to get one of my transcriptions immortalized in print so fingers crossed!

Leo Kottke is well worth checking out too if you've not come across him before.

I saw Evans on a 'Folk At The BBC' show last year, was amazed I'd never heard of him either. Tony McManus is another one I've only found recently, phenomenal player.

Tony McManus and Leo Kottke are both incredible. Clive Carroll is another incredible guitarist to watch out for. I almost forgot about him! One of the very best, and great to watch, the guy is full of enthusiasm and energy.

Yep I love Archie Fisher, I think he was Bert Jansch's guitar teacher. His song Western Island is one of my all time favorites, along with Lindsay and The Snow It Melts The Soonest. He has a sublime folk voice.

One of my best friends tours every couple years with Archie in the USA. If I hear they're headed for NYC I'll give you the heads up. Folk music is very interesting, and it's about as far from dance and rap as you can get. My friend has done more than a dozen albums of his own and produced a couple of Archie's but those guys are virtually unknown hero's.

He's in his 70's but according to my friend he wont start the day without a full English breakfast. Bacon, sausage, eggs and baked beans. He also says the touring can't last too much longer. I've not met him but I was given a few of his LP's and may still have a few around. I'll have to check.

Another great guitarist if you're into folk is John Doyle. He's a fantastic fingerpicker and singer but he's also possibly the best Irish rhythm player I've heard. To hear him accompany a fiddle player is amazing.

He made it himself apparently. Not the shape I would have gone for but it does have a nice, distinctive sound. As far as I know Dave Evans is now semi retired and making/repairing instruments in Belgium. I also think his heels are spectacular.

Beautiful! I love the guy's voice. It doesn't really seem to have deteriorated with age at all. I think all of his old stuff is on Spotify, some incredible stuff. Here's another of my favorites, the late Micheal O'Domhnaill of the Bothy Band. Another great picker/singer, and one of the early DADGAD pioneers. Davy Graham is credited with popularizing the tuning in the 60's, but I think O'Domhnaill was one of the first to apply it to Irish music. Lord Franklin is a beautiful old tune, John Renbourn recorded a great version as well.
